Delicious, local food, done well. A lot of restaurants in Matera now are too far up their rear ends, catering to the uninformed tourist. But if you're looking for the genuine braceria experience, come here. The meat is local and fresh, and cooked to perfection. The ingredients are about showcasing the quality of the meat without overpowering it. And, best of all, the prices are very reasonable for this area. We were welcomed with smiles and open arms, and I'd like to give a special mention to the waitress (my apologies, I never got their name). Her English was excellent, and she made every effort to ensure a fantastic experience, taking the time to explain some of the local traditions and to introduce me to their selection of grappa and amaro.

If you're looking for a friendly and authentic Lucanian meal, you've found the...

I discovered this place casually, and it was a very nice surprise. The personnel and the owner are very polite and cozy, and the food is five stars. The place is run by an italian family, and it is just what a tourist is looking for. They are specialized in grilled meet and the amazing thing is that you can choose what kind of meat you wish in your dish directly from the window (picture below). You sea what you will eat. They have great selection of local meat and home made sausages. For less than 30 euro, I got appetizer with tipical cheeses, two dishes of pasta, grilled meet with very fresh salad as side, dessert, water, wine and coffe. And the service is just excellent! This place became a must when visiting Matera! 100% recommended,...

This family-run restaurant offered us one of the best dinners we've had in this part of Italy. If you're looking for high-quality meat, this is the perfect place. We tried beef, pork, and chicken, and all were perfectly cooked and full of flavor. It was so good that we completely forgot to take pictures—but trust me, it's absolutely worth dining here at least once! While the terrace may not look impressive, the staff made us feel very welcome and added a warm, personal touch to the whole experience. Make sure to try their homemade desserts, which are lactose- and gluten-free. We had the tiramisu and biscuit salami, and both were incredible.

Highly...

In September, we dined at this Matera restaurant, a butchery with seating in the back. The highlight is choosing your meats directly from the display or the menu. We tried grilled lamb chops, sausages, ’nduja bombette, veal skewers, and chicken wings. For sides, we had chickpeas and rocket salad, and barlotti bean salad. It was my mistake ordering two bean salads, as I thought the barlotti beans would be more vegetable-like, but they were canned beans, making the meal a bit bean-heavy. Overall, a great experience. Highly recommend booking in advance, as it’s a popular spot with locals.
