My husband and I had a day trip to Matera in July 2017. We loved the city so much that we promised to return there some day in the not-too-distant-future and stay a few nights to explore. Aside from the amazing city of Matera, which is a huge character and personality in itself, we also shared an amazing lunch and had a wonderful chat with the divine and gorgeous Marilia, and therefore we also fell in love with Materia Prima Bistrot. And now six years and a world wide pandemic have passed on, and we finally made it back!
Once again we were not disappointed! Dining el fresco, in front of the beautiful exterior of Materia Prima Bistrot, on a warm Summer´s afternoon/evening, drinking refreshing Limoncello Spritzes, Gin & Tonics, eating the delicious dips, spreads, vegan balls and soaking in the wonderful vibe in front of us on the Piazza San Giovanni, the best! It was reassuring to see that one of our favourite eating places was still there after all the world has been going through. We felt like we were, in some way, home again. And it was so incredibly lovely to see Marilia and her smiling, friendly face once more. Her fabulous staff too! Grazie mille to you all! With love from...
Read moreThe best meal I had in Matera!
We had been having almost the 'same' type of Italian menu for the past week and came across this little gem in Matera!
We came in slightly early but was welcome to be seated.
We had ordered the costini as a starter which was served warm! The bread was so soft with the melted cheese.
Both the slow cooked beef sliced and pork bombette was very very good. The bombette kind of melt in your mouth! So does the potatoes - well cooked and nicely flavored. Kudos to both the chef and owner for putting such an unique menu.
As for the desserts, we had to skipped as we had several in the late afternoon on the same day.
Keep up with the dishes...

All the positions were ridiculously small and overpriced, even if they were regular in size I'd call it expensive. The menu states "mini tacos" and it costed 8.5 euros so I assumed it would be at least 4 pieces but two tiny tacos that I could literally swallow it as a whole came. Sorry but 4 euros for one mouthful bite is too much. Lasagna was also a very small portion which costed more than 15 euros, burger too (albeit expensive, the size was ok?) A service fee of 2 euros per person applies which is also stretched to the...
