GUD • Milano CityLife — Restaurant in Milan

The 2 stars are for the location. It's a great set up for an open-air lunch or happy hour cocktail, good music too. & of course the view of the city's pretty nice, if it's not raining. Unfortunately, you can't sustain an establishment on view alone. Food & service should matter too. It seems though that GUD isn't really that concerned about those other 2 important points. Even though ordering food & drinks when you come in is more of a fast food set up where you decide, order, & pay at the entrance from a counter. Then wait at a table for your order to be prepared, receipt in hand. Considering there is zero table service offered to customers (except to bus the table afterwards), there seems to be an insane abundance of employees buzzing around looking too busy & acting bothered when asked for anything. Besides that, our wines were not served in clean, polished glasses & I had to go to the bar to ask for a change...goodness forbid anyone comes to your table to ask if you need anything or if everything is OK. This kind of scarcity in service is usually balanced by cheap prices, like in fast food restaurants, but GUD charges full-service prices. What's worse, the FUD is not GUD! In fact, the menu is extremely limited (at least in the afternoon it is) so I went with something that I thought would be fast & hard to screw up: chicken Caesar salad. Too bad I missed the fact that the menu says it's made with iceberg lettuce instead of romaine. Hello! A Ceasar Salad without romaine is not a Ceasar Salad! It's also described as having "crispy bacon", & by "crispy" they mean half raw, limp, waxy bacon. The dressing, which I'm sure was also not real Ceasar dressing (allergens didn't include fish) was just not enough. I reluctantly picked at the salad because I was starving but it was really mostly unbearable & couldn't get through half of it. The other menu items which I did not try didn't look much higher in quality or care, although the focaccia/pizza looked edible-ish. They should add the words "Not So" before their name to make it more authentic. I might come back only for drinks (in clean glassware) during warmer, dry days but never again to eat. There are plenty of other outdoor spaces in Milan with much better service,...

Rivedo positivamente il giudizio a 1 stella di due settimane fa' e lo rimetto a 4 stelle:

c'è di nuovo la distinzione tra bere e mangiare, si ordina ciò che si vuole

ottima organizzazione per accoglimento e distanziamento degli ospiti e supporto anti zanzare

per il resto offerta come prima, tutto self service con coda all'ingresdo, alla cassa, al bar, al banco popcorn, meno per le focacce dove c'è la chiamata del numero; buon bar, bella location, pop corn un po' aggiustato nel gusto, senza odori sgradevoli, salatissimo, ma non è obbligatorio mangiarlo inizio luglio 2020 Rivedo il giudizio a 4 stelle di nove mesi fa', che lascio pubblicato qui sotto per riferimento e comparazione, e lo porto ad 1 stella con queste argomentazioni:

Abito nel quartiere, a cento metri, e spesse volte quando passo vicino per un allenamento di corsa vengo aggredito allo stomaco dalla puzza degli orribili pop corn.

Ma veniamo ad oggi, e raccomando di leggere non solo "com'è" ma anche più sotto "com'era" per capire l'involuzione:

All'arrivo le hostess ti portano alla cassa, dove paghi per poterti sedere, potrai poi fare altre code per serviti, non per essere servito, da bere e da mangiare.

Devi necessariamente prendere l'offerta "aperitivo", a 12 dicesi 12 euro, non è più possibile distinguere tra bere e mangiare, uno dei punti di forza l'anno scorso, vedi review.

L'offerta aperitivo a12€ oltre al drink include non solo i raccapriccianti pop corn, ma anche della focaccia, dove il quantitativo non sembra essere correlato al numero di persone che hanno pagato tutte 12€, ma un po' a spanna, tavoli con tre o cinque persone ricevono entrambi una focaccia. Le focacce sono preparate in maniere diverse, ma non le puoi scegliere: arrivano "random", per esempio anche con i salumi - io sono vegetariano.

Sintesi: aperitivo 12€ = drink + becchime per polli + focaccia 'ndo cojo cojo

Morale, posto nato carino e simpatico, evoluto un po' negativamente l'anno scorso e oggi onestamente bloccato da un "format" sbagliato e improponibile con una value proposition negativa, statene lontani! ricordo che meno bello per il giardino ma infinitamente superiore a Citylife c'è un bar il cui nome comincia per "Pec#" ...

Il giudizio passato da 4 a 1 stella può risalire come è sceso, ma ci devono essere un cambiamento radicale e un buon motivo per provare di nuovo. Com'era 9 mesi fa':

Location all'aperto all'interno di Citylife, con tavoli sotto gli ombrelloni. Vista molto bella sui grattacieli (vedi foto) finché la stagione tiene un posto splendido dove bere l'aperitivo, per me che abito a cento metri proprio eccezionale.

La proposta distingue il bere ed il mangiare, cosa meritevole perché chi vuole solo bere qualcosa prima di cena trova la sua risposta, come anche chi vuole mangiare le splendide bruschette e di fatto riempire la pancia per cena.

A 7€ analcolici, vino e birra, 10€ per i cocktail.

I più: bella location bere bene: bella scelta di vini anche prestigiosi, Ichnusa non filtrata alla spina, in bicchiere degno di un pub inglese staff del bar professionale i meno: l'aperitivo base una volta portava con sé piccole cose ma gustose, come il pane guttiau, adesso prevede 5 olive appena mangiabili e pop corn al curry che sarà anche migliore del pop corn normale, dico solo che di tre che eravamo al tavolo in due lo abbiamo assaggiato e lasciato lì cassa un po' in tilt, ma c'era molta pressione di persone, può succedere.

In sintesi, 5 stelle no, che per averle non ci devono essere troppi se e ma, 4 stelle...

Thought we’d still give this place a try after reading the mixed reviews, but our experience was in the end just as mixed as the reviews. Nice place to sit with slightly over priced drinks and limited snacks, but had one of the worst customer service, by who I believe was the shift manager, that I’ve ever had. Needless yelling, belittling and arguing with us over a mixed up reservation. It was clear her staff did not enjoy working for her. Having worked in the industry, I found it completely unprofessional to have someone like that in this position, and felt bad for all who were working under her. This place has a lot going for it, but the vibe from the staff adds a cold vibe to it.
