Osteria Serafina — Restaurant in Milan

I will start by saying that the food was absolutely incredible here. Not a single fault neither in mine or my friend's dishes, they were all very delicious.

The reason for my rating is because of the waiter we had that evening. My friend is half Italian, and speaks the language fluently, whilst I do not. And for the entire evening our waiter completely ignored me, not addressing a single word or look to me whilst explaining it all only to my friend and also doing casual chats with her. I'm not sure if it was because I look Asian, or because of a lack of English speaking skills, but it made the situation extremely awkward and impacted the mood / atmosphere of the evening.

I understand we are in Italy, and not everyone might have perfect English but there's a way about handling it without just ignoring a guest. I have been to small towns where they don't speak a single word and we made it work with the little knowledge I have of Italian and all, and still managed together. I couldn't even place my orders myself, my friend had to do it for me.

I didn't see the other tables having this issue but to me it just made the place feel unwelcoming. So just something i wished to point out if you're not Italian, you might not receive the same warm welcome depending on who is serving you.

I will still come back at a later visit since the food was so good, and if the experience is better then I will modify this review but right now that's where it stands for me. Incredible food, but might have a bad experience if you get the...

I wanted to surprise my wife taking her out here, she was disgusted by the service and I truly hope you are ashamed and kick the two guys in front of the restaurant out from working here, why are they there if they want to act like children.

They broke 3 rules before we even enter our seats that was reserved upfront.

First guy assigned to invite guests in ignored us completely 2 Second guy also assigned to invite guests in also ignored us, both laughing and talking about while the queue was building up outside.. 3 Worst part is they are racist and let a Italian family go in front of us, the woman said they had reservation, but so did we.

After all this mess:

1 We got offered the worst table at the entrance without reservation card?! Why do you have a reservation option if you’re not going to actually reserve it?

2 We immediately swapped the table as we found it unacceptable, they spent about 5 minutes coming to our table and we were ready to order on the spot, but the guy says we have to order appetisers as it’s required in the restaurant, but we are not that hungry and we were never informed upfront even though we order table upfront + called them. Bad information!

I suggested to my wife that we give them a chance regardless after all the mess but when I waved to the guy to order he looked at me, laughed and left to talk to his colleague continuing to ignore guests waiting in line.

During a recent visit to Osteria Serafina, I was treated to an exceptional dining experience that deserves high praise. From the moment we were greeted by our attentive server Denis, the evening was set for culinary delight.

The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the beef rib. Cooked to perfection, it was succulent and bursting with flavor, a true testament to the chef’s skill. The tagliolini and gnocchi followed, each dish outdoing the last. The gnocchi, in particular, was a delightful surprise, with a texture and flavor that danced on the palate.

The cocktail menu did not disappoint, offering a range of beautifully crafted drinks that perfectly complemented our meal. But the crowning glory of the evening was the desserts. The tiramisu, soft and infused with a hazelnut chocolate sauce, was nothing short of heavenly. And the apple pie was a wonderful nod to classic flavors, executed with a finesse that left us wanting more.
