⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A True Milanese Gem – Sandwiches, Stories, and Spirit!
What an unforgettable experience at De Santis on Via Magenta! 🍷🥪 This isn’t just a sandwich bar – it’s a living piece of Milanese history wrapped in truffle-scented magic and served with a glass of Nebbiolo.
I walked in curious, and walked out completely smitten. Manuel and Gabriel, the incredible duo running the show, were the ultimate hosts – speaking fluent English, full of knowledge, charm, and passion for their craft. They guided me to the perfect sandwich (every bite a masterstroke), paired with a beautiful glass of Nebbiolo that rounded the whole experience with elegance.
But that’s not all – I discovered they make their own Amaro, Gin, artichoke spread, and truffle cream -infused delights. This isn’t just food, it’s an artisanal experience curated by people who love what they do. And you feel it in every detail – from the aged wood of the bar to the care they take when introducing you to their flavors.
If you’re in Milan and want to taste tradition, passion, and serious flavor – run, don’t walk to De Santis. Manuel and Gabriel, grazie mille – you...
Read moreWords do not do De Santis justice. Over the span of 4 days I tasted 13 De Santis sandwiches and each one was pure joy. To compliment their bread or mention the quality of their ingredients would be a meek and wholly insufficient attempt at explaining the glory of this establishment—every sandwich was a work of art. Eating at De Santis toes the line between sacrament and orgiastic decadence. Experienced properly, it is an overwhelming sensuous experience.
Be warned: these sandwiches will ruin you. Thinking of them now, 4000 miles away, causes me physical pain. I once nearly missed my connecting train at Milano Centrale because I could not even set foot in Milan, even for 90 minutes, without going to De Santis. I ran—sprinted—from the station to the subway and from the subway to De Santis, ordered, and made my return journey with a dead phone and with not 5 minutes to spare. To think of how far away De Santis is, how long it may be before I taste it again, fills me with despair. I would walk 50 miles barefoot for a De Santis sandwich. The angels in heaven above could scarcely bring more joy than an Angel from De...
Read moreThe food, although expensive, is very tasty. The decor is wonderful as well.
But the service was just horrible. The two waitresses were extremely arrogant. Didn't welcome us, ignored us standing in the door opening waiting in the rain. When we asked if we could sit, we were told to wait while they sighted. Italians could come in, just passed us by and they started serving them while ignoring us again. Then when we were sat at the table, they started taking the orders of all the people who came after us. Took us 20min. to just be able to make eyecontact and place our order. We said our goodbyes and ciao's at the end, again not even the slightest eyecontact or even a response from the crew. We may not be locals, but this was just horrendous.
A tiny smile and a bit of attention when you pay 30€ for two sandwiches is the least we...
