As a musician, I am constantly moving around and rarely do I get to sample the local flavors when time is short. Luckily, on a free afternoon, bandmates and I happened to be eating at a well-known tourist restaurant when I met Tommaso Aggio and his lovely friends, who tipped me off to a real neighborhood favorite, Pescheria. The following night, after the gig was finished, my friend Ben and I jumped onto the Metro and found that our 10:30pm reservation was honored, and how happy were WE!!! As you enter Pescheria, there is a display freezer to your left, in which they have the fresh catch fish and seafood options. We knew we were in for a very good meal right away. The feeling of this spot is relaxed, familiar, the proper setting for a pleasant experience, which it was. It is an intimate space with funky, homey decoration. There is a formidable wine list, priced to drink! Friend and I had a seat toward the back of the room and were cozy with our neighboring tables. We were brought menus in English, which was much appreciated, but, truth be told, I'm sure that anything we were to order would've been perfection. We decided to split our food; half dozen oysters on the half-shell, seafood salad, yellow-tail tar-tar and a homemade pasta dish with mussels, crawfish, prawns, octopus and fresh basil. Before anything else, out came piping hot bread, with the taste and texture of freshly baked. We had settled on a well priced bottle of Sicilian Syrah - quite possibly my favorite type of wine. The food came out patiently, vibrantly, and plentifully. We were the last to dine in the restaurant and still we were treated as if it were the middle of the dinner service: no rushing us out, a rare quality, and a good one. We ordered a desert: baked, wine-soaked pear. Just a delicious final flavor for our last supper in Milan. On our exit, we asked: do you know Tommaso Aggio, and the sounds of familiarity fumed the banter between the chef and the waiter. Clearly Tommaso is a regular, and clearly, he is as well-liked as is the food by him. What can I say? Thank you Tommaso!!! If anyone reading is wondering why 4 stars instead of 5...I plan to come back and dine here again. I reserved the last star in the review for consistency. Certainly there was consistency in quality, flavor, preparation, from dish to dish. Now I want to come back and try all new flavors and see what will come. If my hunch proves correct, I'll be changing the 4 stars to 5 after...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I went to this lovely restaurant last night. Mind you , I had been suffering from Vertigo all day , I thought I needed a mood booster and cannot not go to dinner that my partner booked earlier in the week, i had been so excited for this dinner. Walking in I found the restaurant/fish shop incredibly picturesque and an authentic fish 🐟 spot. If there is a scent of fresh fish by the counter that's normal and if anything the wonderful display really intrigued me to want to try everything:) ... the restaurant at the back was very cosy. We had a wonderful bottle of champagne 🍾 (my vertigo felt a bit better haha) and I must say the calamari starter with the hummus was exceptional. It was beyond delicious. And a generous portion too. My pasta with shrimp was fantastic 😋 👌🏼... my partner also had a grilled fish that I tasted was really flavourful. And the dessert I loved too. All in all we were very happy and enjoyed the ambience. The chef also greeted us when we left. I will be happy to come back again 💫 ps I don't expect the prices to be any less than what they were served at. Milano is an expensive city to start with , and this is not a restaurant with 50 tables. It's a small boutique place with limited seating that should also be factored when understanding the...
Read moreFor sure one of the best restaurants in Milan, where you are expected to pay around 50€ per person and leave satisfied. For the appetizer I recommend the burrata on toast with red tuna. For the main course I had the Octopus with his rice, and it was one of the best food experiences I ever had. The wine selection is also very well made. The staff are just the nicest people, even though they took some time to get us the menu after we arrived, but other than that, it was all very fast. For me, one of the few restaurants worthy of a Michelin star, if it...
