I had a lovely evening dining at Dry age. The service was fantastic, and the food was really good.
The offer of an Aperitif was really great and isn’t too common any more, I was then brought an amuse bouche which was good.
I was dining on my own and was seen to promptly. I ordered a dry aged beef sashimi for starters, but after speaking to the waiter, their dry aged on the bone cuts were going to be too big for me alone (800g+).
The sashimi was some of the best beef sashimi I’d ever had, usually a dish like this seems overloaded with flavors that mask much if not all of the fantastic beef you are there to eat! This was the opposite, it looked stunning and the flavour of the beef came through and was accompanied by the dressings nicely.
For main I had a fleet of beef cooked medium rare with smoked mash and steamed asparagus. The sides were good, the mash was fantastic, the flavour was a lovely and Smokey and very creamy. My only critic is that it might have been a bit too gluey in texture, however the flavour was enough for me to overlook this. The steamed asparagus was nice, however I think I’d have liked to see it with a garlic and white wine reduction or something, it felt a little plain for €10, however it was very well cooked and there was a good amount of it.
The steak I had was perfectly cooked, the meat was tender and soft, but only 21 day dry aged. I felt it was a little under seasoned, with a good sprinkling of flakey salt on top, but seemingly nothing on the sides of it. I had to add quite a lot of salt to taste for myself. However still one of the better steaks I’ve had!
For dessert, I was presented with complimentary dessert which was nice to have, it was 3 things, a pistachio dessert, a chocolate truffle and a small cake. I also ordered a pairing of fine dark chocolate and a very tasty rum.
The service was great, friendly and knowledgeable, having recommendations for very tasty wine pairings.
In summary, the food was very good and very tasty, and the service and atmosphere was great, however my main recommendation for the restaurant, and the reason I have given them a 4 star is there is no real nice bone in dry aged option for a single eater. I’d have maybe liked to see a 400-500g 60day dry age bone in ribeye or something that I could have chosen to have the same experience that my fellow diners around the room were having. It made me a bit disappointed that I either needed to buy a large steak and maybe not eat/waste it or only have a smaller, much less aged option.
Overall, I had a great experience.
EDIT: thinking back about my experience, I can’t not give this a 5 star review. It was a fantastic culinary...
Read moreI came here, alone, on my last night in Milan because I enjoy a tasting menu and I had eaten so much pasta and pizza on my trip here that I needed something a bit different! (The pasta and pizza was all fantastic mind you).
First of all - the staff were great. The atmosphere was lovely - I had a seat looking through to the kitchen, which I love. I had the wagyu experience, as I've not had wagyu before (knowingly) and it sounded fun. Price was right.
The menu was heavily Japanese inspired. First up, an amuse bouche. a delightful mouthful to kick off the meal.
Then was a waygu tartare, with black truffle. The truffle was very delicate (tuson summer truffle apparently) and there was no overpowering 'fake' truffle flavour added. The meat was buttery and delicious, as was the egg yoke sauce. My only comment (and this is probably very subjective) is that it could have been seasoned a little more. Tasty regardless.
Next, a wagyu potato croquette. Crispy on the outside, wrapped in a shiso leaf, soft in the middle, and on a sweet soy glaze. This would probably have been just as nice without any meat inside (in fact, the glaze was quite strong - in a good way - and probably overpowered most of the meat flavour). Could have eaten lots anyway.
Then a risotto with cubes of wagyu, cooked on one side, raw on the other. The risotto was good. I think i've had better during my time here, but that not to say it was bad at all - i've had some excellent risotto! The meat was delicious.
The main course was steak and soy vegetables - julienned vegetables cooked in a soy dressing. The steak was as all the other pieces of meat were. Soft, rich, tasty. Again - I think it could have done with a bit more seasoning, but the soy from the vegetables made up for that.
Desert was vanilla ice cream with matcha powder. Can you go wrong with ice cream ever? No. and this wasn't an exception.
Also presented was a coffee pana cotta, a chocolate truffle and a pastry i forget the name of. I detest coffee and yet i could have eaten this panna cotta 7 times over. The other items were similarly delicious. I was quite full by this point but somehow managed to fit them in ;)
I forgot to mention the bread. Italians have a magical knack for flour based products. I've had very little bread here that hasn't been excellent. Again, no exception. And the bread sticks were wonderfully thin crispy wafers that wouldn't look out of place in a flower arrangement, but were much better in my mouth.
The meal was capped off with...
Read moreWe were introduced to this amazing restaurant from the Michelin website. We were able to get our reservations through that website as well. First of all, this is not your typical Michelin Star restaurant, which made our experience all the better. Amazing tasting dishes (especially for the meat lovers), modern & beautiful presentation, but most importantly, extremely refreshing atmosphere with absolutely no feeling of Michelin Star “stuffiness.” The owner of the restaurant recommended amazing red wines by the bottle that were reasonably priced, and the head chef, Mateo, would wave at us from the kitchen as he watched us gorge on the amazing prix fixe menu we ordered. It included a cheese amuse bouche in 3 ways, melt in your mouth beef tartare, rich beef tagliatelle, and the main course, a generous cut of a rare “Dry Aged” steak. Cannot forget their “dry aged” tiramisu dessert (yes, “dry aged”which you need to try to understand). The prices are extremely reasonable and the atmosphere, very friendly, which explains why they are very busy in the late evening. Would highly recommend getting a reservation and keeping your stomach empty for an amazing meal at Dry...
