Trattoria Il Brigante — Restaurant in Monopoli

So... we read some mixed reviews about Brigante but decided to make a reservation anyway. I've rated the food 1 but we never are here and this is because the following: We made a reservation for 6 people at 7.30pm. My family and I were walking around Monopoli but suddenly I felt very queasy. I'm pregnant and sometimes I get this. So we decided to already walk to the restaurant because it was very busy in town and asked if we could already have a seat. We specified we didn't want to bother them and that we understand that we were 40min early but that we would not be a nuisance. The waitress was hesitating and thus she asked another (I think maybe the boss) waiter and he didn't even look at us. He just started shouting some things in Italian, shouting "no no no" and making wave gestures with his hand to "shoo" us away. Needless to say we will never step foot in this place ever again. Trattoria di qualità. Inizio dall'aspetto più importante per una trattoria di pesce: la qualità e freschezza del pesce proposto... davvero ottima. Un pranzo con crudo mare freschissimo e diverso. Chiunque abbia preso dei frutti di mare in un qualsiasi ristorante si ritrova a mangiare mitili, qui no. Il crudo è secondo disponibilità e freschezza: abbiamo avuto la fortuna di gustare polipetti e soprattutto allievi freschissimi, chi è abituato a mangiare anche il fegatino può stare tranquillo, saprà di mare. Gli antipasti proposti sono molto gustosi e ricercati. Il livello degli antipasti è decisamente superiore a quello di una comune trattoria. Penso soprattutto ad una mousse di baccalà marinato su crostino: delicious. Quanto scritto fin ora dovrebbe farmi propendere per le 5 stelle, purtroppo c'è un piccolo appunto da fare: i primi. Abbiamo richiesto due assaggini: vi assicuro erano due porzioni più che abbondanti (in stile trattoria) e ve li descrivo. Gnocchi di tonno, pomodorino, stracciatella e menta, buonissimo. Gnocco cotto alla perfezione, il sapore era un crescendo: mare e terra si sposavano alla pefezione. La freschezza del tonno che diventava robustezza della stracciatella sapientemente smorzata dall'acidità del pomodorino per ritornare alla freschezza della mentuccia per nulla invasiva: perfetto. La nota sottotono: il secondo "assaggino". Calamarata con spada melanzana fritta pomodorino e granella di pane di Altamura saltato. Purtroppo mancava di sapidità. Lo leggi è immagini un'esplosione di sapore, lo assaggi e ti aspetti di più. L'idea è ottima il risultato fa perdere la quinta stella. I secondi tornano ad alti livelli: frittura di paranza perfetta. Leggera, l'olio sembra quasi non esserci, e il pesce: triglie che possono definirsi triglie e merluzzi che si esaltano nelle loro croste. Infine i dolci: buoni e produzione propria, da provare assolutamente: il tiramisù. Il proprietario ha sposato una veneta che prepara il tiramisù a regola d'arte. Il proprietario si occupa personalmente dei tavoli e questo a mio parere è molto rassicurante, poi è una persona a modo, simpatica, educata e che sa consigliarti. Chiudo con la descrizione del locale piccolino ma molto riservato e pulito. La prenotazione credo sia d'obbligo. La mia valutazione finale è: peccato per il secondo primo, manca solo un pizzico! I don’t normally give reviews but how could I leave Monopoli without reviewing Brigante. I was lucky to book a table for my first day and what you notice right away is that the restaurant has a family/local vibe. They got me a table outside and it’s very cosy located. Food was incredible. I tried the restaurants suggested starters and then a incredible pasta to finish off. Everything was of highest quality. Even the bread was fresh and very tasty. Service was excellent. They helped me with taxi home. Tip is to try their home made Licorice liqour.

As a reference: I also went to Il Guazetto that was such a big disappointment in comparision that I booked dinner here for tonight as well.
