Strolling around the neighbourhood on our first (rainy) night in Napoli and were drawn to Pizzeria Vesi because of the attractive outdoor seating area. The flowers dripping from the makeshift ceiling and the twinkling lights set a pretty atmosphere. We easily got a table and were served quickly. Server was nice and joking around. The pizza menu is quite extensive, which to me is a little big of a red flag in general because I believe in simplicity, but there is definitely something for everyone. We ordered the classics: marinara pizza, margherita pizza, Caprese salad, and two Peroni. Everything tasted good and fresh.
Overall we had a good experience until the very end. Cover/service was included. When we went to pay, the server said "tip isn't included" and never came back with our change. It was pouring rain and we were tired from traveling 16+ hours from Canada so I didn't bother hunting him down for my change. I've been to Italy several times and know the standards of tipping/not tipping there, and I don't appreciate not being given my change, regardless of the amount. In this case it was €3.50, on top of the cover already included. It just felt a bit shady and rubbed me the wrong way because tipping is not standard/expected in Italy, especially if cover is included...
Read moreFirst bad experience in Naples. Stay away. Food was average and service okay but the scam happened when attempting to pay. Asked if I wanted to pay cash or charge. Replied charge, then the server pleaded for me to pay in cash. I agreed, although it wasn't my preference. Then told Bill was 35 euros. Thought that was high so asked for itemized receipt. Receipt shows final charge of 29 euros. When I ask about the extra 6 euro charge, I was told it is for the 3 euro per person service charge. I show the server that there is a service charge on the receipt for 2 x 1.50 = 3. He states that the 6 euro charge is on top of the final bill and that is how it is done in Italy. I tell him that is not my experience and I only pay the total bill. He then offers my a 5 euro note, still one euro short of the 6 euro overcharge and just leave. Food was basic and you can definitely do...
Read moreDO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE. I bit into a metal staple in my pizza… the other 1star reviews are not exaggerations. The carbonara was a plate of pasta swimming in pig fat with cheese dusted on top.. disgraceful to the country of Italy. Furthermore we were served plastic cups and charged over 10% for a mandatory service change.. upon finding the staple instead of refunding they gave us another pizza as if we would want to risk it again. The staff is disinterested and does not want to be there. Truly an awful experience, go anywhere but here. I would recommend Trattoria Vincenzo for amazing service and pasta, for Pizza you can find any other pizzeria for a better experience than we had. Consider yourself warned… we had a decent experience 2 nights ago but honestly save yourself the gamble, we should have noticed then something was off as the service...
