Walking down via tribulani, which is my favourite street in Naples I think.. there are many good looking places to stop and eat. I’ve seen this place a number of times but never actually stopped in and eaten… that changed upon my most recent trip to Napoli.
The reason I came to Napoli on this occasion was specifically to commission some hand painted signs from the last person in Naples that does these in the traditional way and style, Numeraio Pasquale… why am I telling you this when I’m reviewing a restaurant… well, the restaurant has loads of signs that are done by Pasquale, they’re bright, bold and inviting with quirky phrases and menu options written on them… this drew my eye to the place… I’m not saying I chose the restaurant just because of the signage, whilst looking at the menu on the street, I noticed that Pasquales work was allover it. So, because they had Neapolitan lasagne on the menu, as well as the signage… I went in.
The restaurant is a typical Neapolitan style restaurant, with washing hanging from the ceilings to look like the streets of Napoli as well as the bright signs, the smell from the kitchen was Devine. The staff were all helpful and friendly, they also spoke/understood English and my bad Italian.
We opted to have three appetisers to share between two of us and then one primo each, along with a glass of wine and one large beer, this came to around £40 / €45 ish, which I think was pretty good! The appetisers I had were: bruschette pomorodini, frottatini della casa and paccheri frotti ripieni ricotta e cicoli. The primo’s came served in pots and pans, which was really quirky and added to the overall ambience of the place. Now, back to that lasagne… my gosh was it amazing..! It was the tastiest I’ve ever had and I’m not just saying that. I’d have taken a few portions away with me to bring home if I could… I’ll just have to settle with another visit when I’m...
Read moreIn fact, I wouldn't even give a single star to this place. I went there with my partner for dinner. We ordered pizza, lasagna and risotto alla pescatore (with mussels). The pizza was ok, but nothing special. The lasagna was made out of cheap canned tomato sauce, which is definitely not authentic as we expected it to be in the historical center of Naples. Now comes the worst part of our experience. The risotto was ok until I found 3 stinking mussels, which were obviously spoiled. I didn't mean to argue in front of the other clients, so I typed the last sentence on my phone and I showed it to the waiter. He immediately took all the food on our table, even the rest of the pizza and lasagna (so that I could not take photos). In less than a minute he brought us the bill with everything ordered included there. After I told him that I don't want to make a problem, but I am not going to pay for the risotto with the spoiled mussels, the waiter told me that I should come with him to speak with the boss. I went to the bar and explained to the manager the situation. He started behaving really arrogant, arguing that we have eaten half of the risotto. I invited him to try it, as it was really bad. I also told him that the lasagna was not good at all. The man then excluded only the risotto from the bill and made me pay. After I paid, the "boss", together with the waiter urged us to leave without even taking the rest of our pizza. What is more, they also charged us tho fees for service, which is far not correct as we always leave tips. I will never enter again in this so-called restaurant with such a bad attitude toward...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place the reviews were very good unfortunately it wasn't a good experience.
I ordered two dishes the seafood Ravioli and Ravioli Caprese. For the prices (12 and 14 dollars) there was barely anything to the dishes. Maybe 8 Ravioli per pan. There was no bread or anything else offered. (A first since I arrived in Italy). The seafood Ravioli unfortunately had shrimp that looked like they'd been half massacred in the kitchen, heads half attached, eyes legs and antenna just loose in the sauce. I had to pick around legs to eat the dish so that the different textures didnt make me throw up; the experience was seriously off-putting. The sauce it was served with was delicious but I'd give it a 0 on presentation.
The Ravioli caprese was also disappointing it was maybe 7 Ravioli in a pan with water and what looked and tasted like stew tomatoes from a can. No flavor and just sad. The Ravioli were also very tasteless cheese had almost no flavor, and also falling apart like they'd been boiled too long.
Between the two dishes the table charge and bottle of still water it was a 30 dollar bill. The most disappointing meal and highest bill since coming to Italy as well, (and the previous ones were for two people.)
The staff wasn't friendly either, the waitress looked like she was being tortured the entire time. The guy at the desk never left the counter and kept playing on his phone. If the kitchen staff is as disengaged as the front house staff it's no wonder the food tasted like frozen dinners.
Pick something else. Too many amazing places to...
