Trattoria dell' Orso — Restaurant in Orvieto

We decided to get lunch at Antica Trattoria dell’Orso on a recent trip to Orvieto based on the recommendation of a friend that lives in town. We love traditionally prepared food and when we travel we look for dishes and wine that are local, and this restaurant has both.

We started with a couple of antipasti. The fried pork-belly was amazing. It has been a while since I enjoyed US style bacon and this exceeded all expectations. It was flavorful, smokey and crunchy. We also ate a selection of sliced meats. I hadn’t had this in a while so I might have enjoyed it more than I should have, but it was great as well.

We enjoyed a regional pasta called Umbricelli, which is a fresh pasta that was chewy and held up to the sauce well. I had it with a cinghiale ragù and truffles and it was delicious. I believe the pasta, sauce and truffles are all Umbrian delicacies and I was so happy we came to this restaurant.

I had lunch at Trattoria dell’Orso and was very disappointed, despite the high ratings. The service was inconsistent: one server (wearing glasses) was extremely rude — he never looked at me, spoke only in Italian knowing I couldn’t understand, and even turned his back on me when I asked a question. It felt xenophobic, something I’ve never experienced before in Italy. The other server, however, was polite and professional, and the only reason I give two stars instead of one.

To make matters worse, my table overlooked trash bins on the street, which spoiled the atmosphere, and the food itself didn’t make up for the poor experience.

I would not return, and I cannot recommend...

In una fredda e ventosa notte ad Orvieto, ci siamo imbattuti in una piacevole scoperta: la Trattoria dell’Orso, un rifugio accogliente dove il calore dell’ospitalità e i sapori autentici della tradizione umbra hanno saputo rendere la serata indimenticabile.

Personale Il personale è stato simpatico, gentile e molto accogliente, creando un’atmosfera piacevole e rilassata per l’intera esperienza.

Location L’ambiente è un po’ retrò e datato, ma comunque molto caratteristico e in linea con il fascino di una trattoria tradizionale.

Piatti • Primi: Gli umbrichelli al cinghiale e tartufo e le fettuccine ai funghi e tartufo sono stati eccellenti. La pasta era ben cotta, le porzioni adeguate e il condimento generoso, permettendo anche il piacere della scarpetta. Si nota una grande attenzione alla qualità degli ingredienti. • Secondo: Il petto d’anatra in riduzione di vino rosso e cipolle caramellate era cucinato alla perfezione. La consistenza dell’anatra era morbida e ben bilanciata dal condimento. • Contorno: Le patate sono state un’autentica sorpresa: semplicemente “spaziali”. Consigliamo di assaggiare anche le erbe aromatiche (salvia e rosmarino), che aggiungono un tocco “wow” al piatto. • Dolci: Qui l’esperienza è stata meno entusiasmante. La maggior parte dei dessert era terminata, e il semifreddo al pistacchio si è rivelato piuttosto anonimo, un peccato perché il dolce è importante per concludere bene un pasto.

Conto Abbiamo ordinato 2 primi, 1 secondo, 1 contorno, 2 dolci e 3 calici di vino, per un totale di 80 euro. Sebbene il prezzo sia giusto per la qualità dei piatti e l’esperienza complessiva, se fosse stato 10 euro in meno, sarebbe stato davvero ottimo. Nel complesso, leggermente alto.

Conclusione Nonostante il finale dolce poco memorabile e un conto un po’ elevato, la Trattoria dell’Orso offre un’esperienza culinaria che consigliamo vivamente. Grazie alla qualità della cucina e all’ospitalità del personale, è un’ottima scelta per chi cerca i sapori autentici...
