La Taverna di John — Restaurant in Palermo

An incredible place dedicated to pizza. Established in 1970, La Taverna di John specializes in wood-fired pizza. There are many types of pizza, from traditional to more elaborate, but everything is made with an incredible sense of flavor. I've been traveling around Italy for years, and I personally think this is, along with one pizzeria in Naples, the best I've ever eaten. For example, the pizza with mortadella/gorgonzola/buffala/truffle honey? It's absolutely amazing! The pizza with sun-dried black olives/sweet cherry tomatoes/anshovies and fresh oregano... This place was the first one we tried out as a couple while in Palermo. We were pleasantly surprised by the kindness of the waitresses, the taste of the pizzas we tried (3 different kinds) and the reasonable prices. For 35€ we ate three delicious pizzas, drunk a Fanta and a bottle of water. Its placement was also a big plus for me, since it was not far away from the historical center (around 10 minutes of walk) but it was isolated from the crowd we saw on the main street of the center, while still making you feel the city’s true italian vibe - that was perfect for me. Absolutely superb pizza cooked in traditional wood fired oven. This has got to be the best I’ve ever had and it’s fantastic to watch them being made. Family run business which has been in the same family since 1970. The restaurant is popular with local people which is testament to the incredible pizzas which you can customise to suit your dietary requirements, mine was loaded with veg and no cheese.
