Panificio Irmanà — Restaurant in Palermo

This place is the best kept secret in Palermo. I would go back to Sicily in a heartbeat just to be able to go back to this deceptively modest looking bakery. It deserves a Michelin star: this is the honest simple food that has only what it needs, and made in a way hard to replicate. Everything we had tasted like a bit of heaven: no idea what you call the buns the size of a hand sprinkled with icing sugar with ricotta filling, like a cloud. I think it had a few tiniest bits of chocolate in it, looked too big to eat in one sitting, and ended up making me want another one. Even a simple panini tasted somehow 100% better than one would expect. Wonderful granita! From a commercial looking slushy machine! I think that the lady who is always there is a sorceress, she sprinkles fairy dust on everything and everyone around, her warm and kind smile gave her away. She sprinkled some on us too. I will never forget Do sit at the table, and, oh, there was a beverage stand next to it outside, till now I regret not having a wee cocktail from it, sure a magic potion to go...

First time we came we truly had a great time: exceptionally good food/drinks, friendly service. This positive experience led us to come a second time. Unfortunately this time we were tried to be scammed by the lady behind the counter, who charged us random prices for the canolli and coffees, which were 80% higher than the first time we visited.

Upon request of the actual prices she seemingly struggled, naming multiple different prices, that still did not add up to the final price in our bill, which made it obvious to us that she tried to scam us, hoping we would not realise it, because we are just „silly tourists“.

Luckily a friendly man who works there as well corrected this and we got our money back. However I am so so disappointed that we were treated like this. It really only takes one person to spoil an overall nice place. Lying to and stealing from people is a sin and just very bad character.

The main issue here is dishonesty. Price they tell you versus the price they charge you are different. The products are average in taste, you can go to a better place. Don’t be fooled by people telling you the arancino are good because it is the worst arancino I had in Palermo.

They will scam you and think you won’t notice. Good job getting a couple more euros of a nice trusting person. I hope that made you...
