We saw that this place had a 4.9 after almost 3,000 reviews, and that lots of people said it was the best gelato they had ever had, and were like, "really? 4.9? The best in Italy?!?"
Everything you read is true. This is Michellin Star-level gelato - stunningly presented, with incredible flavor and texture. Even the cones are top quality. My first was Peach/Wine and Lemon/Mint; the former was amazing, and the lemon and mint were perfectly balanced, although I would not recommend mixing the two gelatos together (completely my mistake, not theirs). I was so impressed and curious that I went back for a cone of Watermelon and Coconut; the watermelon was exactly what one might want in watermelon gelato on a very hot day, and was just about the purest expression of watermelon I could imagine; it was almost more watermelony than watermelon itself. But the coconut was even better - packed with shredded coconut, and exceptionally flavorful.
Again: everything you read about this place is true - it is truly amazing. Why it is on a side street away from everything else, and not in the middle of Quattro Canti, is a mystery to me. Get here before they get their Michellin star and get overwhelmed...
Read moreOur experience in Sicilia is that you can truly get a first class experience in a low rated place, and a terrible experience in a high rated one. Unfortunately this place falls into the second category. We assumed it was the owners on the place next door, because we saw them talking in there, and clearly they saw us when we entered the Gelati shop. We were standing inside waiting for about 5 minutes, until someone from the dishwasher room went outside to tell the owners that there were people waiting. Even after that person went outside, the owners still took a couple of minutes before coming and served us. The fact that they were still talking to each other while they're enter the shop, and not even saying hi, nor apologizing for have us waiting was so rude, but what was the most shocking part was that after that awful service, the owner got the guts to say: "Give us a nice review on Google" not asking if we were pleased with the Gelato, and not even saying: "Please".
At the end the Gelato wasn't...
Read moreThis is the best gelato in Palermo. Wait, wait, hold on a sec, this is the best ever Gelato I have tried and seen. Creamy and sweet to a perfect balance. What makes it to step on the podium of winners, is the wide range of flavours available. Like sweet, sweet and sour, even perfect spicy like in “Ghost Pepper “. There is no pepper, it is just a touch of ginger, mixed with peppermint, a combination that tries to explore every single cell around your mouth and tongue, before you let the gelato slide down. And when gelato is gone the “Ghost Pepper “ taste is still there to remind you for the special “thing” that melted away in your mouth. What makes it to step on the top of the podium to “spray the champagne” and celebrate with the “victory March” is the real fruits and presentation of the final product. Yes it’s true, the “Dolce Capo” uses real fruits not flavours. Than the presentation is something that Italians have no fooling around with the little details. Loved it, tried quite a few...
