Ristorante Gigi Mangia di Gianluigi Mangia — Restaurant in Palermo

It was our last night in Palermo and we decided to treat ourselves to a nice meal. We read the reviews and chose this restaurant since it was also close to our hotel. We had high expectations and were pretty disappointed. Unfortunately I think we chose the worst night to go since they had a group of about 30 people inside the restaurant that pretty much took over, they also depleted all of the house speciality. Due to this large group service was extremely slow, almost an hour to get our appetizers and they forgot our drinks. It took about another hour to get our main meal which was probably not prepared with the care it would have if they weren't scrambling to service that group. Now the biggest shock was when we were finally given the bill (after requesting it twice), they charged us a cover charge of $4 per person. This is just gouging, considering we waited almost 3 hours eat. In terms of the food I am sure that if that group wasn't there it would have been better. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great. We had Christmas Dinner with a group. The ambience was nice. That was the most positive thing to mention. The first course, the pasta, was okay. But really nothing special. The main was a friggin joke. A piece of veggies topped with cheese. Completely unimaginative. No herbs, nothing at all. REALKY LAME! 👎👎👎

And that although we told them a couple of days beforehand that there would be a couple of vegetarians coming... And on top of that €6 for a non alcoholic beer.

Friendly serving staff, pleasant location but very overpriced. The food was dreadful. I had tuna which was covered with an awful salt crust. The fish was off, smelly and grey. Inedible. To give them their due, the chef did come out to find out why i had returned it and offered alternatives, but by then i had no faith in what was coming out of that kitchen.
