we approached with sweet innocence and anticipation, youthful expectations of a sicilian feast... and holy smokes! how jarringly wrong we were. we were lured in by claims of a family run business, cheap prices, and FREE APEROL SPRITZES!!! 🤬
as soon as we sat down, our world came crashing down before our eyes. to our horror, straight away, we were told that the aperol spritzes were FIVE EUROS EACH. barbaric.
ordering food we wanted was the next catastrophe... upon an attempt to order a 6 euro pizza, the waitress STRONGLY discouraged me as she said their pizzas were "long". Long seemed fine to me, so I said don't worry about the shape I just want the pizza! She then insisted again that I wouldn't want it and to order instead their (much more expensive) pastas. I was confused by this advice but I thought she was genuinely warning me that the pizza may be ridiculously big or something similar but to my HORROR, 50% of the other tables had ordered their own pizzas and they ALL looked perfectly normal, if somewhat oval??
the carbonara was a scam slathered in oil, the risotto was also sat on a puddle of oil. the oil:food ratio was quite disasterous 😃.
on a positive note, the restaurant was on the most stunningly beautiful street, surrounded by... prettier restaurants that we definitely enjoyed our experiences at!
so. moral of the story. if you are ever in palermo, wandering down Via Orologio... wander on.
yours sincerely,
three people in desperate need...
Read moreAs you walk past the restaurant, the waiters entice you to sit and promise that everything on the (extensive) menu is available. When we tried to order, every main we wanted was not available (we were the first table of the evening to sit. Should have taken that as a warning), and the waiter would only allow us to have the much more expensive options. The only fish they had available was listed as €25 on the menu, and then, “just for you”, became €35. No meat was available (because apparently it’s available “only in the winter”). The wine smelt and tasted like it had gone off, the antipasti dishes were extremely oily and salads were dry, undressed and made with the cheapest vegetables. Even the expensive fish had no flavour, bar a bitter aftertaste. To top it off, once handed the bill, we were told that the card machine had stopped working due to “wifi issues” and they would not let us go into the restaurant to use the card machine. After asking why, the waiter’s previously excellent English became unintelligible. There was no prior warning when we sat down that they only accepted cash, and no signs on the menu or around the...
Read moreTravelling around Sicily and avoided the tourist traps. Walked down through Rge restaurants and stopped to look at a menu, the smooth talking front of house guy caught us. Ordered drinks. Asked if the orange juice was freshly squeezed, he said “of course”. Ordered a glass for my wife. I ordered a local white wine. The orange guises was out of a carton. My wine arrived in a heavy glass which you would serve water in. Food: 1) Seafood pasta (Scoglio) he said it had prawns in and lots of seafood. Mainly mussels and clams. One prawn One piece of squid 20 euros 2) Spaghetti vongole Nothing special 18 euros Staff inattentive, the main guy kept out of our way and would not make eye contact. The bill 57 euro
Copetto 4 ( which he did not mention) Water 3 (1 ltr) Charged for 2 glasses of wine at 5 euro each
Asked about this and he said call it 55 I said should be 52 He said ok 50 Just wanted to pay for what we had and leave. Really poor service. Food average, expensive for what we had. I know reviews are subjective but just felt ripped off. See my trip advisor review in cantania from 26th June (CU A VOLI COTTA CU A VOLI CRURA OSTERIA...
