Zia Anna - Trattoria Siciliana — Restaurant in Palermo

TL;DR: Worst experience ever. Words can't describe how awful this place was from beginning to end. Service is unbelievably atrocious.

The two of us waited 20 minutes for a drink (coke zero) and then over an hour and a half for our food. They never brought us bread to snack on while we waited. The couple that came in at the same time we did had eaten and left by the time we got our food. A table came in 45 minutes after us, made a table change and already had 2 baskets of bread and appetizers at this time. After an hour, the server came over and said they couldn't make one of the meals we ordered (rigatoni) and offered spaghetti bolognese instead. At that point, we were exhausted and tired of waiting but didn't have the energy to go elsewhere. After complaining, they brought a plate of free bruschetta and apologized for the delay and assured us it would only be 5-7 minutes longer. Not long after, we received our meals which were not at all worth the wait. I would say less than mediocre at best. It didn't taste like fresh pasta (as they told us it was). Every table received parmesan cheese except ours. We asked for the bill three times from three people and it took over 15 minutes. They tried to charge us an extra €10 for 2 glasses of wine that we never ordered and brought us an incorrect bill three times. I rarely write negative reviews, but this time I cannot stay silent. We visited the restaurant Zia Anna and were extremely disappointed. We ordered a grill platter and a tomato salad — it was simply inedible.

The staff who invited us in were friendly, but that’s where the positives ended. The meat on the grill platter was overcooked and completely tasteless. Moreover, the meat and fish seemed to have been cooked in the same oil. Eating chicken with a fishy aftertaste is, to put it mildly, unpleasant.

I travel a lot and am not picky about food, but this time I couldn’t even touch the dish. Still, to avoid ruining my day and nerves, I paid €44.50, but I definitely do not recommend this place.

We had the appetizer with eggplant tomatoes and cheese which was not as pictured. The entire appetizer swam in oil. No tomatoes but tomato sauce? My husband had lasagne which was flavorless. I had the sea brass which was good. I recommend the grilled sea brass, it was fresh. I did not get a plate for dissembling the fish but we did have an extra plate the salad came with. The side fries were way too much. What was disappointing was that at first we were welcomed so nicely and then they hardly minded us. At the end they charged us for the ‘big’ brass but we had ordered the regular one as there was no big option.
