A grand rate of Nil. Zero. Zilch. Arrived to Pisa after a week in Tuscany, visiting Umbria, Cortona & Florence. Top class restaurants. Arrived asked could we sit down. Party of 5. I had my Mum. My Husband, daughter and her fiance with Me. My daughter noticed Water flowing around the pavements. I said probably just like Venice. Next we were seated by very grumpy young man. Our waiter soon arrived. A tad more polite. Then we noticed a very foul smell along with all.the customers. It was a busy restaurant a good sign as one would say. In this case not. The smell dissipated. To our delight we ordered our well deserved food. My husband ordered Spaghetti with Prawns. Simple tasty . One would think. Mumnorsered breast of chicken. Chicken came under cooked. Spaghetti had 1 prawn halved. Yes ONE Prawn halved. Small miserable portions. Served with an atrocious foul smell again. Some people got up and left before waiter arrived to take orders. 8 men behind us and near the door were asked to move to a different table. They did so. Then to my husbands and my itter discuss. I said to my mum do Not turn around. To my daughter and fiance . Do Not turn around. To our discust foul smell got worse. Two men dressed in appropriate attire came and opened the Man Hole. The Shore whatever you would like to name it.
I asked everyone to get up and go further up on the street to avoid anything. People left. I asked for the bill. Was given it. 112.50 for breast uncooked chicken. 1 prawn spaghetti. Penne aioli. Gnocchi. 4 coffee. 1 tea. Of which 4 dishes were not eaten. Excuses for portions too.
I went inside to complain re Man hole been opened and everything came out. Smell got worse People left. The owner shouted at the staff. The staff fighting back.
I wanted to walk not pay But scared in case arrested. Fights arguments amongst staff and owner kept going Italian style. Mature son of Owner apologising to me. Granddaughter there apologising and crying. I refused to pay the bill in full. Argues twice with the owner who contributed shouting at me in Italian. So I gave him as good as. Saying Health & Safety issues. Not good. This would not happen in Ireland. Restaurant would be closed. People.could be I'll. Toilets discussing. I guess should have checked first.
Iver priced. Excuse for portions too. You may see the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Square of Miracles. But beware. Dirty. Unhealthy issues here. Never saw so many customers leave. Found a classier place.7 restaurants down. Smell free. Guilty only of scent of great Italian cooking in second restaurant. What a fine...
Read moreHorrible experience at this place today. It’s a horrific and abhorrent thing to see that migrant waiters from Bangladesh and local Italian waiters are both equally racist, to the point of making caricatures of distressed tourists and name calling people from certain countries by telling that they do not serve people from the said country. Hopped in for a real quick lunch during my one hour trip to Pisa to see the leaning tower. As I was running late to the airport, the lady waitress offered me pasta without giving a menu. Given that I was only in the nick of time, I confirmed my order for sea food sphaghetti. The clams tasted horrible, some of them having a sour rotten taste. Anyway, after eating while paying the bill, I noticed that the restaurant had added additional amount for ‘cover’ charge, which was not informed to me while taking the table. When pointed the fact, the lady informed me that it’s there in the menu, which at the first place was not offered to see. When I pointed about the lack of intimation, the lady waitress started making caricatures how I was rushing and hence, they didn’t give a menu. On top, the Bangladeshi waiter commented that this is why the restaurant does not take tourists from India. Really unprofessional and shocking behaviour instead of assuaging the concern and moving over. This is despite, I having paid the cover charge on top of the food price, the waiters misbehaved with a solo traveler and were completely racist. Would never recommend any tourist to visit this place. May be the place suits hooligans and I’ll- mannered locals much like...
Read moreUnfortunately we only had one night in Pisa. Due to train strikes throughout Italy, we arrived late. Almost missed our tower booking. So, we just went to the closest/most convenient place for dinner after the terrible day we had. This “restaurant” honestly topped off our day. They rushed us in because they said they were closing in 30 minutes (they ended up closing way after that because we walked back later and they were still open). Charged us 4 euros for water. The food was horrific quality. I was concerned and raised my eyebrows at my partner when they took our order and I am not kidding when I say 5 minutes later the food came out. Red flags everywhere. My partner ordered the spaghetti bolognaise and I had the carbonara. His meal was somewhat edible. But the carbonara was foul. It almost tasted like they cooked it in… mayonnaise? Worst. Meal. Ever!!! I am a pretty lousy cook, but my partner agreed my cooking is better than this (that’s saying something). I am devastated we got caught in a tourist trap, especially given we have only one night in Pisa. Not a good look for the city. The waiter was kind to us. However, we were charged 4 euros for a “cover charge” and then they had the nerve, the audacity, to ask for a tip lmao. Nothing good to say about this place, really. I wish I had taken a photo of the carbonara because it was literally yellow. I have learned my lesson and will ALWAYS research restaurant reviews beforehand. I usually am diligent with this but I was so exhausted today I didn’t...
