Sat down here with my family today on a hot July day to eat and relax. Not a sole in the place at the time. We apparently upset the host when we sat at two separate two person tables outside. I get it, and we wouldn’t normally have elected to do this if the tables against the wall weren’t so hot and the place was full. There was a better breeze towards the outside area. No big deal. I was willing to pay to separate tips etc and money wasn’t an object here. No biggie, when she came over to harshly remind us that one table only, we quickly complied with a smile. It quickly became obvious to us soon thereafter, that they had no intentions of serving us at all. The server and possible manager just sat there and chatted while we sat in an absolutely empty restaurant. Well, now we know why. As I have travel the world eating over the years, this type of behavior still never ceases to amaze me. Especially in a culinary culture like Florence, Tuscany, etc. Everyone here has a Florentine steak, prosciutto and pasta. The world’s a big place and it’s probably a good time for people like this to realize that restaurants shouldn’t be run this way ever. Angry and rude people don’t go well together with food and service. Key word, Service. Skip this place if you can...

First they mistakenly charged too many drinks on my bill. It pointed this out, and they changed it. Mistakes can happen.
Secondly, You have to pay a table fee of 2,5 euros per person to be able to sit down which is common here in Italy. No worries However they charge 15% on top of your bill for service fee. Just like that. They said this is also common practice everywhere in Italy but it's absolutely not. We've been travelling around Italy for 14 days now, never had this anywhere. I calmly asked some explanation because this fee is new to me. The lady got smart and said: 'It's written on the Menu!' Indeed it was, in incredibly tiny letters. After that she said: 'Call my boss then'
Guess what, everywhere else service is included in the table fee. Also if a customer is happy i'm the first one to pay something extra. But this is just plain wrong.
If you like freezer pasta, and bad service, feel free to visit.
Lastly, if you do point out your concern, they start trashtalking about you in against eachother in Italian like you're not even there.
Maybe they we're having a sunstroke because it was pretty warm today.

Read moreWe went in, I told the waitress that we'd like a table for 4 but we only really needed 2 cappuccinos (I was with my husband and our 2 kids). She said grab a seat outside. I said I'd rather be in the shade. She asked is that table at the back ok? I said, we don't care. So we sat down, she proceeded to prepare us 2 cappuccinos while we alternated using the toilet.
The cappuccino is excellent, as can be expected in all of Italy, in my opinion. But the fact that this cafe is nearer the leaning tower than the WC signs showed everywhere pointing to the designated toilets for people visiting the tower (and after paying 72€ for the 4 of us to climb up, I honestly expected to at least be able to use the WC for free, but of course it isn't, 1€ per person and for the 4 of us, 4€) and for 2€ you get excellent coffee, I say this is the one place that feels as authentic as can be, everything else surrounding the Piazza dei Miracoli, is unfortunately, kinda rip-offey...
I do understand that traveling can get expensive especially when you visit these iconic sites and that's why you need to travel smart and this cafe was a gem!
