La BotteGaia — Restaurant in Pistoia

I want to start by saying that the food and staff there were wonderful. However, we would never go back solely because of the owner (the older man). He made a RACIST joke about me being “Japanese” (I am South Korean, travelling with my adoptive parents). Then when a lady accidentally gave us the wrong bill, he proceeded to YELL at her in front of us. It was a quick fix, but we don’t think he treats his staff nicely. Which is unfortunate since they were very kind. We won’t be going back to this restaurant and hope that others don’t support. Also, pretty sure he upcharged us for being tourists.

EDIT: the “joke” was when we were being handed our menus. My mom (who is almost fluent in Italian) received one in Italian, my dad received an English one, and as the man handed me mine he said “oh I don’t have one in Japanese for you”, and laughed at me. My mom responded on my behalf stating that I was not Japanese, but no apology from him. There was no “language barrier”. Also, to the other part, regardless if him and the other woman are married, it is still unprofessional to behave that way in front of customers. Inappropriate...

A small eatery hidden in one of the side streets, with a small garden. The menu is interesting, there's a recommended dishes card, prices are normal, but the coperto is 4 euros. We tried a cold tripe salad and pasta with duck – interesting flavors, but very small portions. The waitress was seemingly nice, but added 5 euros to the bill for alcohol we didn't order, so be careful and check your bill.

EDIT in reply: it is your obligation (as a manager or a waiter) to check, if the amount and the dishes/alcohol on the bill is correct (and no, you didn't bring anything "by mistake or sth". I have strong impression that you just don't like customers if they are not Italians or Americans, and do not eat 4 courses - and I have right for that.

Attirés par les bonnes critiques nous sommes venus dîner dans ce restaurant. L'accueil est vraiment à retravailler, car nous avons eu l'impression de les déranger alors que l'une de nous quatre parlait Italien. Une personne parlant uniquement français ou anglais aurait peut-être été déroutée. Nous avons fait l'effort d'être aimable mais a priori ils n'étaient pas dans un bon jour... (Pas tous, car certaines des personnes étaient un peu plus accessibles pendant le repas) La nourriture en soit n'est pas mauvaise, voire de qualité pour certains plats, mais 1 portion était vraiment faible (4 raviolis pour un plat, ça fait juste... Typiquement nous avons mangé à Sienne le lendemain a l'Osteria Cice, les portions étaient bien plus généreuses et moins chères). Nous avons pu manger 2 fois de la glace après le repas sans problème. La tomate farcie végétarienne était très bonne ( et en quantité suffisante) quant à elle, les plats avec viande était bons. Nous avons pu repartir avec la bouteille de vin (très bon d'ailleurs) ce qui est appreciable. Bref expérience plutôt déstabilisante car l'accueil était vraiment pas agréable. 80€ pour quatre au final pour rester sur sa faim, soirée que l'on regrette un peu donc...

Edit : le restaurant a répondu en nous conseillant d'aller au McDo. Pas besoin d'aller en fast food pour manger suffisamment pour un prix acceptable. Vous trouverez beaucoup d'autres lieux, j'ai cité l'Osteria Cice de Sienne, mais que ce soit a Pistoia ou Florence nous avons fait mieux et moins cher. Ils nous répondent également que l'accueil n'était pas bon car ils ne parlaient pas français ? L'une de nous parle italien donc je ne comprends pas du tout ce qui les empêchait d'être aimable. C'est pour nous le principal dans un restaurant. Enfin répondre que les Français ne font pas mieux en France montre bien d'ailleurs le niveau...
