One afternoon, we went to that place and our son and his girlfriend decided they wanted to eat something. My wife and I were undecided, so we went to see the beautiful sea in Polignano. After about 20 minutes, we returned. Our son had already ordered and was sitting at a table for two with his girlfriend. We decided to eat too, so we tried to sit at a larger table. The owner, seeing what was happening, rushed over to us and said we couldn't sit down if we didn't intend to order food. This was strange, since all the tables were free except for one. At that point, we confirmed that we wanted to eat and sat down, first ordering drinks. Then we continued by ordering two lasagnas and a caprese. And here was an unpleasant surprise: the mozzarella was roughly cut and accompanied by slices of tomato and... lettuce cut into small pieces. There was no basil or oregano. No taste or appearance. The lasagna didn't even seem like a lasagna. It wasn't layered; instead, it was a sheet of pasta wrapped around itself with ragu on the side and a strip of bechamel on top. With the first bite, another surprise! The pasta was overcooked and microwaved because it was extremely hot inside and barely warm outside. After this "fantastic" culinary experience, all I can do is strongly advise everyone against this place. Or you can risk and go there anyway. The...
Read moreI had high hopes for this Italian spot, but the meal turned out to be a mixed bag. The carbonara, unfortunately, leaned far too egg-forward for my taste and oddly reminded me of Maruchan cup noodles — not quite the comforting Roman classic I was expecting. I'd rate it a 4/10.
The lasagna also fell flat. It had the texture and flavor of something pulled from the freezer aisle rather than a lovingly layered, slow-cooked dish. The cheese tasted aged, but not in a good way — more like it had just been sitting too long. Another 4/10.
The saving grace of the meal was the bombette alla pizzaiola. These were delicious — tender, flavorful, and felt genuinely wholesome. There was a rustic quality to the dish that made it feel like it came from someone's nonna’s kitchen. I’d give it a solid 8/10.
Overall, the experience had its highlights, but the inconsistencies made it hard to fully enjoy the meal. Worth a visit if you're curious, but maybe skip the pasta.
The owner was incredibly kind upon seating us but as soon as we wrapped up our meal it felt like we were...
Read moreOur visit to Baguetteria Da Gianpiè was a delightful surprise. Located on the bustling main pedestrian street of Polignano a Mare, this cozy eatery is just a short 10-minute walk from the famous Lama Monachile beach.
Here’s what made our experience memorable:
Tasty Dishes: We indulged in a variety of dishes. The pasta with Italian turnip, the pasta with tomato sauce, the baguette with stracciatella cheese and salmon, and the forest fruit cake were all flavorful and satisfying. Portions were large and nicely served. Friendly Service: The owner, Giampiè, went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. Not only did he serve us promptly, but he also serenaded us with the iconic Domenico Modugno’s “Volare”. His English was good enough to complement our broken Italian 😉, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Fair Pricing: Despite the very good quality of the dishes, the prices were reasonable. Verdict: Baguetteria Da Gianpiè is a must-visit for those seeking authentic Italian flavors and a welcoming ambiance. Buon...
