This restaurant was a severe disappointment. I regret dining here.
Last night we decide to search around on google maps and found this restaurant.
The ambience is typical of Positano meaning fantastic. The interior decor. The outdoor tables have a great view. And the staff were very kind to us.
There was an issue when receiving our Mojitos that the staff quickly rectified. However, the drink itself tasted like water. I’m not sure if they ran out of rum. It was not strong at all; felt like no alcohol was added.
However, the reason for my severe disappointment is the dish I ordered at the recommendation of the water. Not only was it far too expensive for the portion size, but on top of that the entire dish was unappetizing and tasteless. I ordered the mixed fish dish 28€ and what I got was a dish of sea bass (not even salted), one shrimp, squid that both looked and tasted like rubber, and tuna which tasted worse than what comes out of a can at home. The fish tasted like frozen fish that could be prepared in 5 minutes at home.
It’s simply ridiculous to me that the dish I ordered would command 28€ and then they charge a cover fee on top of it all.
On top of that this was easily the highest dining bill we have paid so far. Normally I do not mind especially when paying for quality. But I was so turned off by this place. It’s the only restaurant we’ve had this experience so far in Italy. I left the restaurant hungry, which shouldn’t happen anywhere especially not in Positano.
I wish the restaurant would refund me for this negative dining experience or at least refund me half of the bill. I would be embarrassed if I was the owner.
Normally I am not critical. You can see from my other reviews. It doesn’t take a lot to satisfy me but I won’t accept food that tastes...
Read moreDa Gabrisa was the first restaurant on our 10 day honeymoon that we went to on our first night after arriving from Connecticut since it was so close to our villa on the Fornillo side of Positano. We did our homework and booked the reservation 2 1/2 months in advance, and we requested a nice view. We were not disappointed! We sat on the patio overlooking beautiful Positano and the Tyrrhenian Sea. What a great first impression! The chef’s welcome is a mini sour dough pizza puff with small tomatoes from Sorrento with Parmesan cheese on top. It’s freshly made and warm upon arrival and simply melts in your mouth. For our Antipasti dishes, I ordered the Polpo Arrostito which is “Roasted Octopus” since I wanted to dive right into their local cuisine and have never tried octopus before. Octopus has the texture of lobster and the taste of chicken. My husband ordered the Fiori di Zucca which is “Fried Zuccini Flowers stuffed with buffalo ricotta cheese”. It sits on a layer of sliced tomatoes from Sorrento. This is a winner dish! You will soon find out that Buffalo cheese and Sorrento tomatoes are in all restaurants in Positano because they are local ingredients grown in the region of Campania. Da Gabrisa also has their own wine shop next door, so if you are on the Fornillo side of Positano, the staff are happy to help you select a wine within your budget and tastes. We liked this place so much we ended up going back for lunch on our last day. Bonus Side Note: since they offer patio dining right near the street, what’s nice is they have some planters with small hedges to separate dining guests from the car fumes, and Da Vincenzo and Cafe Positano do not provide that. It truly...
Read moreI very much enjoyed my time at Da Gabrisa, booked it without knowing much about the establishment but I can easily say it was my favourite restaurant out of the 4 we went to in Positano. It's blessed with a charming view and occassionally relaxed atmosphere broken up by the sound of cars and bikes zooming passing regularly.
The food was spectacular, wonderfully cooked by excellent hands. My favourite dish may have been the complimentary appetiser, it's like a doughy small round bread, crunchy on the outside resting on a rich tomato sauce. It was divine, could have ate 5 of those alone.
The main was the veal fillet which was tenderly cooked but so flavoursome. The portion size was perfect for me personally, I'd imagine some potatoes would add to the dish but I enjoyed it personally.
The desserts were outstanding, the chocolate mousse was one of the best desserts I've had abroad, beautifully presented and everything on it was divine, in particular the soil like chocolate that the ice cream was sat on was utterly delightful.
The tiramisu was also excellent, incredibly delicious and wonderfully presented.
The drinks were very well made as well.
The service was exceptional, very impressed with their attentiveness and professionalism. No delay in getting food or the bill. The restaurant is understandablely pricey but with the quality of the food and drink on offer, I have little grounds to complain
Perfect place to have a dinner date. Well worth the climb as well.
