It is disappointing to have to write such a poor review of the Mediterranean restaurant in Positana. However in more than 30 years of travelling Europe this is the worst meal and service that we have ever received.
In particular it was the attitude of the staff that really disappointed.
My daughter ordered a starter that was served at the same time as the main course for 4 of our party of 6. We had finished our main courses more than 10 minutes by which time the remaining 2 main courses had not arrived.
When we asked when the meals would be coming it appeared that they had been forgotten about. No apology was made and at this stage we told the staff to forget about them and we were leaving.
We ordered French fries with 2 of the main courses and were served soggy potato crisps, which the chef indicated he prepared himself. This was certainly untrue.
The food itself was very poor. I ordered the seafood pasta at the recommendation of the waiter. This consisted of empty shells and some pasta in a watery sauce.
The most disappointing aspect of the experience was the appalling attitude of the staff. They were unprofessional, untidy, flippant and couldn't care less.
At no stage was there an apology and their aggressive attitude when we cancelled the 2 meals that did not arrive left a very bad taste in the mouth.
When we left we went to an adjacent restaurant, the cafe Positana to get food for the 2 friends whose meals did not arrive. The difference was like chalk and cheese with excellent food and superb staff. We have rebooked this again this evening.
Having read reviews on trip adviser I can see that this is not the first time that customers have complained about the 'rude' staff.
I would strongly recommend giving this restaurant a 'miss' when in this otherwise beautiful town, even if it is the only place that...

We were a group of five, and after climbing a long and exhausting staircase to get to the restaurant, we were surprised to find every outdoor table unoccupied—yet still told we must sit inside. When we asked why we couldn’t join two small outdoor tables (as many other restaurants routinely allow), we were told, dismissively, “We’ve never done that before.”
We politely asked again, trying to understand the reluctance. Instead of any willingness to accommodate, we were met with indifference and what felt like a complete refusal to even consider a reasonable request. When we asked to speak to someone in charge, the waiter said, “There’s no need—everyone here treats guests the same way.” That statement, unfortunately, turned out to be true, as what followed was more dismissiveness, condescension, and at one point, open mockery. The waiter disengaged mid-conversation, clearly uninterested in whether we stayed or not.
I have honestly never encountered such an unwelcoming and unapologetically arrogant attitude from a hospitality business. It was abundantly clear they had no interest in making guests feel welcome, let alone in earning any money.
We walked two minutes further and were received with warmth and basic human decency at a different establishment. The contrast couldn’t have been starker.
In short: Don’t waste your time or energy here. The poor treatment we experienced is not a one-off, as confirmed by other negative reviews. I’m frankly baffled how this place holds a good rating. But if you read between the lines and pay attention to the recurring theme—terrible service—you’ll understand that we weren’t the exception. We...
Read moreRecommended by the villa we stayed at and based on the amount of reviews we decided to come by. Had a reservation but it did not matter as seats were open. This is what I’d call a typical run of the mill Italian restaurant. However we sat near the back (by the door to the wine cellar?) and were pretty much neglected. We asked for a menu upon arriving and the waiter did not tell us to scan the QR code so we sat there waiting… when we finally figured it out, no one came by to take our order until foreverr… a single gentleman was seated in the table next to us, got his sparkling water.. but was just as neglected and he ended up getting up and walking out… none of the waiters noticed LOL. Either way, they didn’t serve us bread or anything even after they took our order. It wasn’t busy at all and there were at least 3 waiters. The table up front that was constantly being cared for was no more than 10ft from us.
Everything including bread, appetizers and first and second courses were brought to our table at the SAME time… we had mussels and no one came to clear the plate full of shells.. then we waited forever for them to clean our tables and ask for check. We’re so tempted to jsut get up and leave like the gentleman did, no one would know. The food was just mediocre/standard. Except I ordered zucchini flowers and only 1 came on a dish with cold cut (confused with a diff menu item). Overall poor service, unappalling food. The guy who took our payment was very nice but I really didn’t like the overall experience. D’aiello has similar prices but you’ll get superb service, a welcome gift, and...
