Title: Deeply Disappointed – Poor Service & Disrespect Toward American Tourists
Let me start by saying: I didn’t actually eat here. So please don’t proceed if you don’t want to. But that’s exactly why I’m writing this review.
As an American tourist, my experience at this restaurant in Positano was deeply frustrating. We called ahead and were told there would be an hour or and 1.5-hour wait, but no reservations were accepted over the phone. We were instructed to arrive in person to be added to the waitlist.
We made the strenuous hike — twice — only to be told we’d be added. I even mentioned that my internet wasn’t working well and confirmed with staff that it wouldn’t be an issue. They assured me everything was fine. Yet somehow, we were skipped. I checked an hour later and found that I had JUST been added to the list - four minutes ago. No apology, no solution. Just indifference.
I work in healthcare in the U.S., I’ve dined at three Michelin star restaurants, and what I value more than food is service. You can serve the best dish on Earth — but if you can’t treat people with basic courtesy and respect, I have no interest.
More broadly, I noticed a disappointing attitude toward American tourists in Positano. We may be loud or “uncultured” to some, but we also invest heavily in these economies. Experiences like this make me wonder why our money is welcome but we are not.
To anyone considering dining here: there are many beautiful places in Positano where your time and presence will be appreciated. This, unfortunately, is not one of them.
If I can reach one American through this review , I consider my job done . I’m so glad I didn’t waste €500 at this place and just took my...
Read moreThis was the peak of our dining in Positano and we couldn't have been happier with our meal. We did not have a reservation, we walked in and ended up on the wait list and an hour and a half had our table, they give recommendations for a nearby rooftop to grab drinks at while you wait which was much appreciated. The wait was well worth it because the entire experience was amazing, from the service to the food to the atmosphere. Our waiter was so friendly and on top of everything and provided suggestions that were spot on (he suggested half portions of a couple of appetizers so we could try both, so happy he did). Every employee we interacted with was so kind and friendly, there was nothing snobby about this place even though they very well could be that way with how good it is. On to the food - 10/10 absolutely incredible. The black truffle pasta was to die for, I still find myself dreaming about it. My boyfriend had the little raviolis and they were delicious as well. Dessert was fantastic, we shared tiramisu and cheesecake and both were some of the best I've had in my life (the tiramisu may well have been the very best). Atmosphere was fantastic, we sat outside and it was a very romantic evening with the softly lit tables all around, but inside looked fantastic too, don't think you can go wrong with either. The pricing was also very reasonable given the quality and caliber of this place, I was pleasantly surprised when I received our check, we had far more expensive meals in Italy that were nowhere near as good. Overall I can't recommend this place enough and can't wait to return when I find myself in...
