I’ve had the worst time at ROC after traveling across Rome, Tuscany (three towns) and Sorrento. I’ve had so much better food and service across Italy. My husband and I regularly travel and spend money on great experiences and food.
Terrible unkind service with the worst Italian waiter DO NOT COME if you’re gay/LGBT or an ally Our waiter was terrible to us, forgot an entire entree, was annoyed when we mentioned that, then we were asked for a tip See: Experience
Pizza was great but not amazing, especially if you’ve been to any food capital Do not get the meat - you pay hundreds for something you can get in other Italian restaurants or other food capital restaurants for less than half the price. It is not worth it here an you will not understand why you paid ~$2-500 for a “special” cut of local meat Everything is overpriced. Everything. See: Food
The Experience The waiter we had (older probably in 40’s, longer crew cut and black hair jutted straight up) was awful. He was one of the most unkind, inattentive people - not just Italians - I live in Philly and lived in NYC before this. This guy never once checked in or looked at us once after we placed our initial order, of which he forgot an entire entree. He was much kinder and attentive to all the hetero couples around us, including the couple where the husband never talked to the wife and scrolled on his phone the whole time (waiter still stopped at his table every 15 min, though!).
Once we finished our first entree and gave him time to notice, then didn’t, we asked one of the other staff members (not him because he wouldn’t come to us). The original waiter came over to take our “second” order, he was really annoyed and impolite as if we never placed the first order. Once that order was in, it was another hour before the second entree came, which our waiter was very annoyed to bring us (rolling eyes, served it without a smile or additional descriptions like he was with the other patrons, etc.).
The final entree came an hour later and we asked to take it to go - the maitre d’ asked or a tip which is actually crazy given Italian law prohibits obligating that as a part of any service industry purchase (never mind the TERRIBLE SERVICE we got).
The Food We got a couple insalata plates and it was a collection of subpar vegetables with little/no dressing or seasoning. It was so unremarkable and priced at 15-23 euros. Crazy, would never suggest to buy these every. Looking at you tourists from countries where eating vegetables in salads is normal!
The pizzas we got were good, truly, but not amazing to the degree other reviewers have said. If you’ve been to a food capital in the world, no matter what their specialty cuisine, you have had pizza as good, if not better, than this. The menu here will say the chef here studied Nepoli cuisine and ingredients and pizza etc etc - sure. The pizza was good and not worth the snotty attitude of the place.
Bottom line - I’ll never go here gain and if you want to spend the money to eat this food you can do so much more other places in Positano and anywhere else...
Read moreProbably the best service I’ve had in Positano, others should take note. My wife and I were too tired to cook and to walk down to the bottom restaurants so I decided to hunt down some takeaway pizzas. So I gave the Roc pizza place a call and they were very polite on the phone, unfortunately they don’t do deliveries so I did have to make my way to them which wasn’t a problem. They do do take away pizzas. The restaurant was pretty busy at the time I think this is quite normal this summer after Covid so generally people are pretty stressed out. But the guy serving me was polite. To my delight they had a vegan and vegetarian pizza on the menu the price is a little bit more than you can expect from main cities as this is Positano but it did not disappoint. I waited around 10 mins outside for my pizzas as there was no chairs available because they were occupied by scooter helmets. Who I assumed was the manager, came outside with the pizzas and hand delivered them personally.
The pizzas were really tasty, the crust was really nice and the tomato paste was perfect, not too salty and not overdone.
I can’t really comment on the actual restaurant side of things as I only ordered takeaway pizza, but the whole restaurant seemed very modern and very fancy. I’m not sure if I could recommend this to any vegan or vegetarians as there is dried meat hanging up on display at the back and that may offend non-meat eaters.
I almost forgot to mention there is a bar in front of the restaurant that has an amazing view of the Amalfi coast. I’m kind of a little bit disappointed we only found this on our last night...
Read moreRock Pizza and Steak was a random find. After abundance of fish and seafood consumed in Positano we craved a good steak. Googling lots of restaurants to spend our last night we came across this place with just 28 but positive reviews and figured the place was new and worth trying. Thankfully, Marincanto was able to reserve a table for us, as Positano in august is very crowded. What a find! The waiter recommended Spanish ribeye 1.1kg, and it was by far the best steak in my life! The meat was flavorful, marble and cooked to perfection. It was dark red, crisped outside and almost blue inside. It was a culinary orgasm to say the least. We are not wine drinkers but their wine list is substantial, you will definitely find what you like. The choice of digestives was also amazing. I am a fan of Genepi, and they offered Amaro Eroico which was perfect to finish my meal with. It’s not a commercial line, so you probably won’t find it easily, but I need to add that after sharing a truffle pizza and a 1.1kg steak I feel extremely satisfied and not heavy. Definitely worth repeating. The staff is professional and friendly, we were sitting outside where there is space for 3 couples or 6 people only, but inside is beautiful and atmospheric. It is perfect when it is too hot or raining. Go there and order meat from Spain, you won’t regret it. Comes from a meat lover with high demands. Thank you for such a lovely last night in...
