Terrazza Celè — Restaurant in Positano

My boyfriend and I had the worst restaurant experience we have ever had at Terrazza Celè. We came to the restaurant for our first night in Positano on Friday May 10th 2024 at 7:30pm.

The customer service was absolutely horrible. We were greeted at our table by first asking if we wanted still or sparkling water. After that is where it went downhill. Nobody came back to our table for another 18 minutes, we finally were able to order our bottle of wine and then again, no server came back to us. We sat at our table from 7:30-8:30 with just a bottle of wine. Every server including the hostess in the restaurant was too concerned about moving the couple sitting beside us who requested a table closer to the view.

I am not sure if this man was famous but all the servers attention was focused on getting this couple a better seat closer to the view. Once we were finally able to flag down a server, we ordered our mains. Another server brought us out bread and oil around 9:00pm. We finally got our main dishes around 9:20pm. Both mains were cold and for the amount of time we waited, it was nothing special. The pasta sauce tasted like gravy you would add to a roast beef dish. After sitting there for just over 2 hours we were ready to pay our bill and leave.

It was very apparent that the servers knew by our mood we were ready to go. At the end of our evening another server brought out a complimentary dessert. There was no apology for the wait and no apology for the lack of service.

Please don’t waste your time at this restaurant. We did not have one consistent server the whole night and we were 100% forgotten about for the amount of time we sat there and nobody approached our table. Every server in the restaurant was too occupied moving a couple closer to the view than they were with us. It is unacceptable to sit at a table from 7:30pm-8:30pm with no server approaching your table. Not to mention how expensive our bill was for the horrible experience. We went to terrazzo cele on our last night staying in Sorrento after finding it online. It had been described as ‘the best restaurant in posetano’ and so we were very excited to see what the fuss was about.

The terrace are was very beautiful and yes the setting was gorgeous.

However, other than that I have nothing positive to say.

The head waiter was miserable and made up feel as if we were a hassle for him. The bread they serve on arrival looked like it was bought from the local supermarket.

We ordered a bottle of local wine which was delicious.

The waiter cane out with a taster compliments of the chef. We weren’t sure what it was so my husband asked the waiter who simply snapped ‘its compliments of the chef’ and walked away.

The starters of beef carpaccio and a prawn fish were ok but for 20 euros definitely not worth the money. They were not well seasoned, tasted bland -although presented very well.

We opted for primi courses rather than main as it was so expensive. These arrived looking great. My husband had a beef pasta (5 bites of pasta for 22 Euro) and I had pasta, beans and mussels. Mine was absolutely tasteless and looked like the chef had literally put 5 pieces of pasta, a spoonful of beans and three mussels in a bowl and served it. Such a disappointment.

When the bill came (btw this was the first time since taking our order that anyone spoke to us) I mentioned to the miserable waiter how disappointed I was and his response was ok - I will get you something else. By this time we simply wanted to get out of there. He returned with a complimentary dessert and limoncello (the dessert was delicious) but it was too little too late.

We paid 110 Euro for one of the worse meals I’ve ever had (he discounted the bill). This was such a disappointment. I honestly think people must say it’s nuce simply because the food looks pretty. Oh and they forgot to give us the band made biscuits at the end which everyone else had. Not happy!

Booked many months in advance and requested to have a table by the water in hope that this was going to be our expensive, memorable dinner as part of our Europe trip.

The food was delicious, the service good and the location was gorgeous. I They also gave us a free brownie at the end so that was a win.

However they were unable to seat us by the water which was extremely disappointing and I would not have booked if that was the case. It wasn’t the memorable dinner I was hoping for and it costed us a lot of money which was disappointing.

Additionally the atmosphere was ruined by multiple young groups that were obsessing over taking photos and increasing their image to followers on Instagram - one group of 4 girls were constantly taking photos for 45minutes prior to even looking at the menu. A daughter in a family behind us started arguing that her dad took the wrong angle and the other side of us a couple was also constantly taking pictures and swapping seats to get the right picture which obviously ruined the atmosphere completely as we were surrounded by this. I feel as though we would have appreciated the waterfront more and actually taken it in rather than showing off to our followers on Instagram.

Unfortunately seems like another restaurant ruined by tiktok. I understand that this is out of the restaurants control, but it was rare to see a group of people/couple there actually talking and enjoying the moment. Which evidently ruined it for us too.
