A really nice little café where we went for the sweet pastry and coffee breakfast because my wife cannot have milk and they advertised vegan pastries. We were confused because we didn't know whether to pay at the top and then order, or order at the counter and then pay at the till. Also nothing was labelled but when the man in charge saw us hovering confused for some time, he took our order and explained in perfect English that there were two types of vegan pastries. My wife enjoyed hers with reasons while I had a homemade croissant with sugary filling, we like our regular and soya cappuccinos. We will definitely go back and have a drink in the evening as we liked the atmosphere in the small bar once we stopped being confused.
When we went to pay at the end the lady remembered exactly what we had, even though they had many customers and I think we should have paid first.
PS it looks like they had sold out of croissants and had a much smaller selection than earlier but if we waited 5 minutes then a lot of fresh pastries came out of the kitchen, of...
Read moreMy husband and I came to Trastevere, Rome for our honeymoon. We had been searching for good breakfast and lunch spots that were light enough, but enough fuel for the day. It’s safe to say that we have eaten at Caffe Trastevere more than anywhere else. The staff started to recognize us as we ordered cappuccinos (less than €2), cornetti (croissant, like €2) affogato (gelato and espresso for €6) paninis (€4) , gelato (€2-6 depending on size you get), and an italian donut. We got 2 cappuccinos, a mozzarella and prosciutto panini, and a donut for €11! The cappuccinos are frothy, cornetti was flaky, and the paninis hit the spot.
Staff remembered us and knew enough english to help us. Very friendly! They bus the tables outside, but you can also order it to go. Inside seating is limited but outside there is a shaded seating area near the main road with some cute greenery. Seems like a local favorite with many taking their food or sitting in. It’s on the corner of the street which makes it really great to people watch and relax after a long...
Read more🌱 First stop to eat in Rome this trip was in Tastevere (which apparently means “across the river”) at Caffè Trastevere. This tradition style Italian caffeè has indoor and outdoor seating, and includes a great variety of vegan pastries, in particular “ciambella”, which is basically a giant sugar donut. These aren’t always vegan-ok at all places but they are ar this cafe. The prices here are good; typical Italian caffe prices; pastries cost about €2.00 each. Friendly staff, clean, conveniently located at the beginning of the most happening part of the Trastevere which is full of restaurants, caffes, markets, etc. Bathroom downstairs (not wheelchair accessible or easily accessible for some people but fine for us and clean enough). Also tried a brioche generously filled with cherry jam. Really good. Stopped by later in the day for more ciambellas. If you’re going there for vegan-ok pastries, make sure to ask which ones are vegan-ok. They are a mix, not...
