Da Franco All'Aventino — Restaurant in Rome

BEWARE! AVOID THIS PLACE! I really regret that we didn't check the Google reviews before eating here. They are total scammers as the previous reviews state. I suspect they thought we were tourists even though we live in Italy and are residents. We noticed they gave us a different menu from other locals who arrived afterwards and when we asked to see the other menu the waitress refused and said it was for reserved guests only! I should have known then we were going to be overcharged, but my husband was starving and refused to leave! The food was awful. The glasses were dirty. The margarita pizza was definitely from frozen! We asked to cancel our plates of pasta as we got a phonecall to go for an emergency but the waitress insisted we waited and had takeaway pasta! She then billed us 7 euros extra (even though the takeaway price is supposed to be cheaper) and when I questioned it she said there was a euro charge for takeaway forks (which turned out to be broken and unuseable)...bad food, dishonest practice verging on fraud. It is a real shame because there are many good eating places in Rome with great food and honest prices under €10 for a plate of pasta. I advise to stay away and I hope they reap...

The place has good prices (but read on, it was not that cheap by the end). The food was average. Very slow service. We ordered a tasty tomato bruschetta, a vegetables antipasto that tasted good, a grilled scamorza that was very tasty and a "salmon" pasta that tasted like fish but had no salmon. What really upset me was that they gave no ticket, just told me the total amount. When I realised there was something bad with the addition, they told me "there is a table service". When I said them this was not stated anywhere in the menu they said "holiday table service" (it was a holiday), 2 euro per person. By the way, I then learned that "coperto" (table service charge) is illegal in Lazio, and even if there was a "servizio" charge of any kind it sould be clearly stated before ordering, what was not the case at all. The food is okay, but BE VERY CAREFUL with the bill, the prices listed on the menu are not the real prices, in the end they charge you extra money for no reason. At the end, (I am not sure if this was the case) when we paid the bill, the waitresses took the money to the counter then came back only to tell us that the money we gave her are fake. Be aware of that cause I am not sure if they tried to make it seem as the money were ours (from the previous place where they gave us change) or the fake 20€ were really from the previous place we paid...
