Ristorante La Villetta dal 1940 — Restaurant in Rome

We went to the restaurant in a group of about 10 people. Originally we had a group of 15 but due to unforeseen circumstances we had to reduce the size. They were not happy about this but did accommodate us. They didn’t do that though until the man who owned the restaurant aggressively asked us how many people were coming repeatedly. We kept telling him but he just got louder and angrier until one of his employees came over and repeated what we were saying to him. It was extremely rude.

The Good: The food was fairly good and the portions were large (maybe a bit too large but they let us take stuff home in a box so it didn’t feel wasteful). The outdoor area was also decently pretty.

Now for the other things that will make it so we never go again.

We had initially contacted the restaurant and verified we could split the bill by what each individual bought since some people were only coming for drinks and we wanted it to be fair. Despite the fact that we had it in writing that they agreed to it, the staff refused to do it and made us split it evenly by person. We showed them the texts and they didn’t care. They didn’t realize most of us speak Italian but were only speaking English because we’re all international. We could hear the staffs rude words said to each other about us acting as if we were just ghetto instead of doing as they had said they would. I would not recommend going here at all.

Even worse there were cockroaches that kept coming out of the drain in the outdoor area and running around our feet. They were about 3 inches long. We told the staff and they just shrugged saying it’s normal for this season. I’ve lived in Rome for 3 years and I have never had a restaurant have cockroaches no matter what season it is. We weren’t the only ones very freaked out.

Go somewhere less over hyped in Trastevere which is...

So many things to say... We were disappointed from start to finish. The friendliness of the 2 waiters who took care of us was simply non-existent The choice of dishes: I personally wanted to order their 60€ tasting menu (I came for that) and the waiter said "ah no, we only do it if both people take it." even though it wasn't noted on the menu and he hadn't told me so when he gave us the menus. And it's impossible to get anything done for us, even if I asked nicely... So I fall back on the "Fettucine con porcini", he tells me « ah no this, we don’t have anymore because no mushrooms ». Okay. Thanks for telling me beforehand.... So I order a "Tonnarello alla Gricia co i Fichi", and he tells me it's not in season… Okay so why put it on the menu? After the 4th attempt, I managed to get some pasta ahah My boyfriend ordered "Paccheri con Polipo", the waiter said "Ok!" and it was only 45 min later, after the starters, that he came to tell him "In fact no, we've run out so you'll have to choose something else". :) Without the slightest hint of "Sorry for the inconvenience" at any time. Finally, we asked for a bottle of water and a Coke, which we never got but they did charge us for it!!! (We hadn't seen the details on the bill before paying). -You can imagine our annoyance when we had to pay the €7 service charge, not included in the rest, for this...

In short, a real real disappointment for this restaurant, which we'd been looking forward to trying out. We wouldn't recommend it at all to our...

The food at this restaurant surprised me, it is outstanding. The staff is good, friendly and efficient. I would warp there in a minute - if We can get in.

It’s near where we stay (repeatedly) in Aventino. Location matters - we read no reviews. Early eaters, we came into a nearly empty place while a football match was in the television. Staff were standing around watching, a bit loud. The decor is routine.

That gave us a pause, butwestayed and things soon quietened down - service was prompt and efficient. Four of us ate different dishes, mostly pasta, no room for another course other than sides and dessert (which were spectacular if ordinary sounding). Tiramisu, for just one example.

I ordered Tonarelli cacio e Pepe, I.e. cheese and pepper, . PERFECTLY AL DENTE, a touch of oil oil in the pit, and tossed with the cheese immediately before serving. Some restaurants at the top level mix at the table.

It is a simple dish which few places manage to accomplish because of timing and error for potential for error.

Ine was served in a large bowl rushed from Kit hen to table. Perfection. As good as I’ve eaten at restaurants noted for the dish. ( many will not menu it because the timing is so difficult in a busy kitchen).

Others had meals equally well cooked.
