We first became aware of Er Buchetto on a food/cooking program featuring Porchetta recipes. While it has a small limited menu; it is mostly a takeout panino shop with a few tables, its reputation for excellent porchetta earned it coverage on a cable network program in the U. S. Discovering that Er Buchetto was close to our stay at Hotel Columbia and near Termini Station in Rome was a very fortunate coincidence. Read moreI just loved that place. Definitely not a major stop in the city but I passed by Er Buchetto for a quick snack before a train back to the airport and... daaiiimmmn, that basic looking sandwich just hit the spot. Really flavourful, in an unexpected way.
I also loved the atmosphere, really not more than a hole in the wall, with five small tables, an old man reading the newspaper and looking like he's part of the furniture, the owner slicing a massive piece of meat to make your sandwich, a bit of attitude from him as you mumble some Italian to order... It was a great touchpoint before leaving Rome.

Read moreI don’t normally leave reviews but I was expecting the sandwiches here to be quite good given all the previous reviews and was very disappointed. It’s a cold roast pork sandwich in a pretty average bread roll. But I ate at night so maybe it’s better to go earlier in the day when the bread’s fresher? Either way, please don’t get your hopes up, I would say this is skippable among all the other great food options in Rome. NB the guy is great and the stall has a rich history and it’s cheap at €4 so by all means judge it...
