First of all, Hangzhou is in southern china where shanghai is, The waiter said this is a beijing style restaurant which is absurd since shanghai and beijing and 2 different cities with 2 different syles. place was completely trash. This place is for people who are not chinese and want western style chinese food. There is no authenticity of any kind. The boss takes pictures with lot of celebrities which means that her time and attitude is not managing this restaurant. There are hundreds of pictures of the former chinese leader mao ze dong and was placed everywhere. Their menus were super confusing and not well organised. when it comes to food, there is a complete mess. The balance of sour and sweetness in the sweet n sour chicken was overdone, the spices on the chicken were over-seasoned meaning that you could only taste the sauce yet not the main chicken. The cast iron grilled meat was a complete disaster. They added too much sweet n sour sauce when it said nothing about it on the menu. The cooking of the meat was shameful, it was "untenderful" and the meat tasted raw. The grilling of the meat was a disaster, it was let of the grill at a low temperture and was simmering undercooked. We asked the waiter what style chinese food it was and she said it was "Beijing" style when there is no Beijing style food. There was a tendency to add too much sauce. They did not even try to balance western style with chinese style as it was sloppy and a mess. I strongly do not recommend this place unless you want to have a 2 day stomachache from the expired sauce on the chicken that you...
Read moreThat's the first time I actually take the time to write a review about a restaurant because I truly think people should be aware that this is largely overrated.
My wife and me both arent Chinese, but we both lived in China for some time and we heard everywhere that this is supposed to be the best and most authentic Chinese Restaurant in Rome, so we thought, we'd give it a shot.
Having only fork and spoon instead of chopsticks, a waitress that doesnt speak a word of Chinese, and not a single Chinese guest in the whole restaurant should have prepared us for a disappointment before the food even arrived.
The food itself was okay, but by no means better or more authentic than your average European "Chinese" Restaurant.
The Service during dinner was alright, but when we left some tips there, we didnt even get a "thank you" in return.
In short: Don't get me wrong, you can definitely get a decent meal there and I guess the European who never tried real Chinese food will walk out there satisfied (as the reviews show), but it is a mistery to me how this place got such high ratings considering that I can't imagine any Chinese going...
Read moreMy Chinese friend and I decided to try out this restaurant based on the recommendation of an Italian friend who claimed it was the best Chinese restaurant in Rome. However, our experience was quite disappointing. We ordered two soups, one duck and a squid , along with a dessert. Unfortunately, the smell of the soup was so off-putting that we couldn't even eat it(We sensed the taste of the cow's stomach which is so weird and unpleasant in sour-spicy soup). While the duck was enjoyable, my Chinese friend found the squid to be far from what she expected and not particularly interesting. Overall, the most unpleasant part of our dining experience was the soup, and it's perplexing why they would ruin what could have been a delicious dish.
It seems that the restaurant's reputation among Italians may be more due to advertisements and photos with Sonia rather than the actual quality of the food. As two Asians seeking authentic Chinese cuisine, we cannot recommend this place to others looking for a genuine and satisfying...
