Hostaria Pantheon — Restaurant in Rome

First time writing review and had to gave this restaurant a one star review for the following reasons:

Coming from North America, I’m well aware of the tipping culture there. After visiting Europe for a few times, I realized that tipping here can be different. Normally you can offer tips but wouldn’t be “asked” for a tip. What surprises me and my friend a lot is that toward the end of the dinner. Upon receiving the bill and the machine to pay, this server pointed his pen on our bill and tab it twice and said “so what’s the tip for service that you give?” and stared at the bill the entire time we put down a number on the tips itself. Never have I ever experienced this where you are being requested tips and a waiter will stare at you literally writing the exact number. This was not a comfortable experience at all dining in this restaurant.

We ordered a starter that comes with toast bread however, that never came. We had to ask our host and then he at first told us that this normally does not come with bread and asked if we would want bread for extra cost. After I confronted him that this was shown with bread then he quickly switched his tone and said okay we will serve you bread. This has to make me question how the order is being managed. When he serves the bread, he straight up tossed the basket to us which honestly made us nervous.

Lastly, food was alright. Seafood was not fresh. I felt some of the mussels went bad in our risotto. Overall it is a mediocre dining experience with...

The meal is always fantastic, though the waiter’s behavior was unprofessional and detracted from the experience. This is the waiter, his name is Alfonso. If you do dine in the restaurant don’t make contact with him, as he is disrespectful, unkind, even i would say deranged and makes the whole atmosphere so uncomfortable! He gives only bad reviews to the restaurant!

P.S. He blackmails you that if you leave a bad review about him, you can’t dine in the restaurant😂

*Since I am not able to write another reply this is exactly what happened : We were seated at a table when the waiter approached and asked us to move in favor of other guests who had just arrived and did not have a reservation. When I expressed that this was unfair, his response was dismissive—claiming he didn’t understand me and that he didn’t care. I informed him that I would be leaving a review about the incident, to which he again replied that he wasn’t concerned.

Later, after another waiter kindly seated us at a different table, the same waiter returned and told us that if I reported him, we would not be allowed to dine at the restaurant. He then proceeded to remove our menus, glasses, and utensils in front of other guests, creating a very uncomfortable and embarrassing situation. Review of Hostaria Pantheon

During our recent trip, we had the pleasure of dining at Hostaria Pantheon, and it was an experience worth sharing! My husband opted for the fettuccine bolognese, while I indulged in the classic carbonara pasta. The bread basket was delicious. Both dishes were expertly prepared and bursting with flavor, truly capturing the essence of Italian cuisine.

To complement our meal, we selected a bottle of Chianti, which paired beautifully with our pasta choices. The best part? The entire meal came to under €60, an incredible value considering the quality of the food and the enchanting atmosphere.

One of the highlights of our visit was the stunning view of the Pantheon as we dined al fresco. Sitting outside, we enjoyed not only the delicious food but also the vibrant ambiance created by local street performers entertaining passersby. It was a perfect blend of dining and culture.

The service at Hostaria Pantheon was exceptional. Every member of the waitstaff was friendly and attentive, making us feel welcomed and valued throughout our meal.
