This was probably the super most horrible experience in our trip to Rome. All because of a single person - our server. He definitely made sure that we hate this place and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. : )
We went here for lunch and it was completely vacant except for another Indian family sitting across from us. We still waited for about 40 minutes or so for the server to come and take our order. Anyway, when he came, I smiled and amiably said "oh thank you, I was waiting for you because I am so hungry haha". To which the server gave a rude sarcastic remark, "Oh well should I thank you for that?". The comment turned my mood off but my husband calmed me down since we were hungry and also because it was my husband's birthday and we wanted to have a quiet lunch.
He brought us "Papad" with three flavoured chutneys which we hadn't ordered. Since we live in the US and weren't sure of how Indian restaurants in Europe work, we assumed it's an accompaniment that they provide here. Well it wasn't. He charged us 2 Euros for it in our bill. :) Agreed, it was our fault and we should have asked when he brought them to the table. So no complaints here but just as an FYI to viewers.
Later mid-way through our lunch, we asked for water and he asked if we wanted "normal water" or "sparkling water". We said normal should be fine. So he brought a jug of water (not bottled water FYI) which had ants in it. Dead ants. Like multiple dead ants. Again, emphasis on dead ants. :) We called the server again and politely let him know if we could change the water since it had ants in it. He looked at my husband in the eye, smirked and said - "This is what you get for saving money and ordering tap water". He smirked, picked up the jug and left. Came back with another jug of water. This time I asked him what he meant by his remark and he said my husband wanted to save money and didn't order bottled water. Can you imagine this guy's audacity? Well, you didn't ask us for the option. You said, and I quote, "Do you want normal water or sparkling water". If you guys know that Rome is a tourist place, I guess it's better to at least be clear with your communication because not everyone knows what norms you have in Rome that we have to explicitly specify that I want bottled water when I say normal water. Or I have to explicitly tell that I don't want the normal water to have dead ants in it? Literally the super most horrible experience. We stayed in Rome for 7 days and no other restaurant had such horrible service. Every place where we had specified normal room temperature water, they brought us bottled water. So how would we know that that your stupid place with stupid server bring water with dead ants in it? Anyway, we didn't finish our food, paid the bill and left. My husband let the server know that the service was horrible to which he replied - "Thank you Sir but I don't care so please don't...

Read moreSo, we thought to go for a fine-dine restaurant in Rome. The ambience of the restaurant was nice. The servers were modest and accomodating. Everything looked nice.
Then they brought paapad (papadums) without ordering. As in most of the Indian restaurants, we thought it was complementary. But they added 2 EUR for them in the bill.
We ordered a paneer tikka and a mixed veg along with a butter naan and a garlic naan. The paneer dish was like a homemade paneer sabzi. The mixed veg was like mixed vegetables you get in Andhra mess thalis in India. So, the mixed veg was really a big disappointment.
The naans were good. Mango lassi was good, but cost 4 EUR. We ordered Onion Paratha, and they gave a kind of lachcha Paratha with some onion pieces on it.
But the worst part was veg Biryani. Basically, they took the mixed veg and mixed with plain rice. Finally, we left completely disappointment. We went to 2 more Indian fast food corners in Rome which had much worse ambience, but much...
