Came here on a rainy day, after spending several hours walking around Palatine Hill, the Roman Forum and a quick stop at the Colosseum. We were very hungry and craving Indian/South Asian food.
Using Google Maps we found this restaurant and realised it's now under new ownership and is called Janta. Apparently they have the same menu as the previous restaurant (Kabir Fast Food).
Waiting staff were friendly and welcoming and seated us near a heater (realising that we were wet and cold).
We ordered the vegetable pilao (rice) with single portions of boneless chicken curry, mutton curry, mixed vegetables and chana masala (chickpea curry). Each plate of pilao rice (we ordered two) was served with either chicken or mutton curry and the other two dishes were shared between my wife and I.
Food was fresh, very authentic in taste and filling. Really enjoyed our meals!
The traditional masala tea was great too.
We spent a total of 23€ for this mini-feast, so it was very good value for money.
The owners pointed out that the meat was halal and even offered to call us a taxi for our journey home.
Restaurant decor is basic but clean. Staff have obviously invested their energies into the food and customer service and it has definitely paid off. Thoroughly recommend a visit if you want generous portions of tasty Indian food,...
Read moreBased on the reviews , I thought of visiting and enjoying Indian food. When I asked menu ,the owner's response was little rough, I was like chalo ,I am here to eat and I ordered my food. I ordered vegetarian thali with Samosa and it was quite good. When I asked for the bill ,he said 12 euro, I took out my apple wallet to pay and he said ,we don't accept cards. In my mind I was like , what ? , Which era are you in ? . I said ,I don't have cash and I have travel card as I am not resident. He said,' I don't know , I accept only cash'. Then I asked the nearby ATM and I went there just to realise it was not functioning. I came back and said the same , then he asked me to wait for a while and then just took out the card swipe machine. I was literally furious at a moment for making me run( I had train to catch) to ATM even though he had device, but was relieved at the same time thinking the issue got solved. I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone who expects...
Read morePrice: We are Indians and went there after living for few months in Switzerland. It seemed so cheap. We took a Veg Thali (each for 10 Euros).
Food & Taste: This had 2 super thick rotis (or you can choose Rice), Paneer, Chole, Dal and Baigan Bharta. First I thought that it won't be sufficient, but in the end I had to put efforts to finish everything on my plate. Paneer, Chole and Baigan Bharta were the stars. Confectionery products were not at all good. We had Pista Barfi (1 Euro). Even Gulaab Jamun didn't look good (0.75 Euro).
Ambience: The ambience if of a typical basic Indian restaurant - With white lights (instead of Warm yellow, which is common in European restaurants), sweets being displayed in glass cabinets, god and goddess pictures on the walls and Kapil Sharma's show being played on TV.
Cons: The sweets were not good and the store accepts payment only by cash. Although there's...
