This is a gem of a family run no frills all quality Roman restaurant... 99% of the customers are locals and the place is always full ... now if you know Rome and the area where the restaurant is you should have already understood that this is no tourist trap, the likes of which the nearby trastevere area is full, or average place. The atmosphere is quintessentially Roman as it is the menu. Pasta, fish and meats are amazing. Pizza is very good, if you like the thin Roman style kind but I would not come here specifically for the pizza, but I certainly would for the rest of the menu (I much prefer the Napolitanian style pizza, but to each their own). the location is quite special, especially in the warm summer evenings and nights when you can sit outside, and very “local no frills” when inside. Basically, come here if you want to feel part of the real Roman crowd and food tradition and get one of the best no frills all quality roman meals you can have in Roma, indeed the place is appropriately named Antica Roma. ( I do not normally post reviews, and I dine out all over the wold all the time but I felt this time I had to, too many disappointingly tourist traps around here and...

I have visited this restaurant twice. The food was acceptable, so I returned alone on a Saturday night. It was 8 PM and not busy, yet the host told me there was no table for one — not even with a wait. I said I would order takeout instead.
While I stood there waiting to place my order, two men walked in without a reservation and asked for a table. They were immediately offered a table outside and were seated right away. Meanwhile, I was denied any seating altogether.
When my takeout order was finally ready and I went to address the situation with the owner, he refused to listen, offered no apology, and instead spoke to me with hostility. Moments later, an older woman (presumably his wife) literally slammed the door in my face and told me to move.
If they had simply listened, I would have assumed it was the host’s error. But insulting a customer and slamming a door on them is unacceptable.
I left feeling shocked and deeply offended. No business should treat customers with discrimination or contempt. This place does exactly...
Read moreA real experience of Roman cuisine. It is down to earth, modest, unpretentious, serious, and good value for what you get. No tourists find their way here. It is in the elegant part of Monte Verde Vecchio, not far from Trastevere. Residential foreigners and locals frequent. It gets overcrowded towards the weekend. Might also get noisy when it is overcrowded but what the heck the food compensates everything. Closed only on Wednesdays. Reservation is essential. It has also an outdoor area even in the winter for smokers. Its pizza is one of the best in town. I love their fried zucchini flower and cod fish. And my most favorite as main dish is their stracetti with small raw tomatoes and shaved parmesan cheese with rucola. They serve the best and the best -digestive liquor Amaro del Capo in the whole town with their home cooked cookies and especially the one with wine is to die for. They have the most friendly waiter devoted to his customer , always smiling and elegantly serving. About 30...
