Ristorante Il Cortile dal 1929 — Restaurant in Rome

If you want to see where the real Romans eat,suggest go to Il Cortile. You cannot find a single tourist there. It has a die for buffet with great selection of “antipasti” as well as a die for dessert buffet. I tried at different times pasta and they were all good as well as lamp chops. Service is friendly. Family owned. They make you feel at home. Not noisy( one of my most important criteria). It is located in one of Rome’s most beautiful neighborhood, Monte Verde Vecchio. You can go for lunch and also eat outside in the spring and summer. Young ones and those who have strong legs can easily climb the hill from trastevere to Gianicolo and up to the American Academy and another five minute walk from there to Il Cortile. ( total walking time 45 minutes) or walk down after a good lunch. The neighborhood has beautiful classic and liberty architecture two- three story private houses. It is not your downtown antique Rome but it gives a good flavor of residential Rome. Reservation is a must at Il Cortile. It is about 40-50 Euro per person with wine if you eat a really...

We stayed in Monteverde for 2 nights and found Il Cortile for dinner the first night. We arrived without a reservation and while the restaurant was fully booked, they welcomed us with a table and we proceeded to enjoy the most incredible meal!! The steak was melt-in-your-mouth perfection, the funghi bruschetta had the best mushrooms I’ve ever eaten. The seafood pasta and spinach & ricotta ravioli were delicious as well. The food and experience were so delightful that we returned the second night and decided to have dessert this time. I’m still dreaming about the tiramisu!!! consigliatomi da carissimi amici che sono buone forchette, che praticamente ci sono cresciuti, "finalmente" vado a provarlo. Situato in una bella zona calma di monteverde, locale mantenuto bene ma un pò datato direi. Ordiniamo dopo abbondanti 15-20 min. e dopo 10 min almeno arrivano gli antipasti, ma del vino ordinato all inizio nessuna traccia. Sollecitiamo...5 min niente...Risollecitiamo alzandoci e andando di persona da qualcuno per chiedere che fine avesse fatto il vino. il proprietario "scusate scusate arriviamo subito". dopo altri 5 min arriva un vino rosso freddo ma tanto (evidentemente è stato preso da fuori il locale, visto che era una serata ghiaccia), ero con una ragazza e nn volevo rovinarmi la serata e non ho detto nulla. Antipasto del prosciutto crudo buono e stracciata con alici del cantabrico (12 euro) porzione minuscola e decisamente niente di che, le alici del cantabrico sono 1 altra cosa. Arriva la parte bella, il mio primo: fettuccine con porcini per "soli" 16 euri, decisamente niente di che, voto 4,5/5. La segnorita prende delle polpette al sugo con del purè. Arriva il piatto imbarazzante, sembrava un piatto da mensa da ospedale. Sta per finire il piatto e tac, trova qualcosa di decisamente duro e strano nell ultima polpetta. Recupera quello che aveva appena masticato, lo mette in un tovagliolo e sembrava decisamente un tappo di una bottiglia confermato da lei (la ragazza lavora in un famoso ristorante, nn è una sprovveduta). Chiamo subito il cameriere, lamentandomi, va in cucina e torna dicendo. "si scusano dalla cucina, ma nn è un tappo, ma la crosta del pane che nn è stata macinata bene"...!!!!!!!chiediamo subito il conto paghiamo (100 euri) e andiamo via, il piatto incriminato non c'è stato fatto pagare....
