We came across to this place while visiting Rome for first time. Until we arrived to the L'Arcano, we were enjoying one of the best holidays ever. Unfortunately this place should be giving an award for the worst place in all Italy. We sat down and ordered some coffes while deciding what to eat. We were put off by the unfriendly and rude attitude of the witress, for that reason we came to terms that we should spend our money somewhere else. Waitress came back with a "man" that we assumed was the manager or owner, demanding us to order food, we advised we were going to finish our coffees and leave. The man got very aggressive and shouted at us to leave the place in five minutes. At that point we stood up without touching the drinks. Then he asked us to pay, I asked how much was and he shouted right on my face 4 euros. I handed him 10 euros and he didn't give me the change back. For what I was told by some locals, this is a regular thing for them. I have been advised that numerous reports have been made to the Italian tourist chamber, against the "restaurant " . Apparently the owner is well known for scamming customers. I wouldn't recommend the place to my worst enemy. I would eat from a rubbish bin and not from the...
Read moreWe pre booked for New Year’s Eve dinner as this place is always busy.
We had driven back from Pompeii and were a little late but our waiter from Bangladesh (his name slips me) held our table for us and served us with excellence throughout the evening.
The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating and covers all of the intersection having been serving for 40years. We were fortunate to have outdoor seating on this beautifully clear evening.
The menu was locked for the evening however the meals were still serviceable for most tastes.
We ordered the carpaccio for a starter then shared a number of mains including the octopus, beef stew, carbonara and steak fillet with potatoes.
Not a fault on presentation, seasoning or taste. The meals were ample and well priced for the service, flavour, location and Occassion.
Very much worthwhile as the prices are competitive to others in the lane and nearby square and fountain (Trevi).
Thanks to my Bangla friend for his service and I can’t wait to catch up to discuss more cricket next...
Read moreWe were out late and needed a place to have dinner. We were hoping for seafood and great pasta and a) this restaurant was one of the few places open and b) they had fresh seafood on display so we were hopeful.
We ordered bruschetta, caccio y Pepe, short pasta with tomato sauce and pecorino, and one of the specials - baked seabass.
The bruschetta came out first. The tomatoes were mealy and lacking flavor, we couldn’t taste the garlic, and it needed salt. This was a bad sign of things to come.
The caccio and pepe was too salty, the short pasta in the second pasta dish was undercooked, and when we asked and received a replacement dish (pasta arrabiatta), the sauce had a smokiness to it and lacked any tangy-ness. Not surprisingly, the tomatoes in the salad were also mealy. The sea bass was ok. And while the waiter was reasonably friendly, he continuously forgot to bring replacement silverware.
We both regret stopping here for dinner and would discourage others...
