Holy moly, it's the real deal and they're not ducking around. This is a new restaurant opened in April 2024, under new ownership, with a new menu that is focused on high-end Chinese Cantonese food. I came without a reservation at prime time on Ferragosto and they were the only restaurant open in Testaccio. I think if you have a particular dish in mind, best to call ahead and reserve (e.g. whole lobster, steamed sea bass, or crab specialties). I got the bbq pork char siu cheung fun (rice flour roll), the sauteed crab with minced pork in green onions, and a side of stir-fried celery and cashews. The bbq pork roll was appetizer sized, but inside were whole slices of home made char siu (not minced) in a pool of sweetened soy sauce. The crab was a family style platter, as it should be, fresh, subtle and savoury (yes you need to break the shells and get in there with your teeth). Celery/cashews were subtle and perfect accompaniment with a bowl of jasmine steamed rice. It was fantastic and the service was very helpful and kind. Definitely will come back to try more of the dim sum items and seafood dishes.
Came back and had the Xiao Long Bao steamed soup dumplings, the ginger green onion sauteed lobster, and full Branzino fish with green onions in soy sauce and oil, which was expertly carved and deboned in front of me. All classic Chinese dishes which were excellently prepared and presented. This place is a hit, but I hope that it can survive in Rome where the focus on Italian food is so strong that anything else requires a specialised palate, and this would limit the customer base to expats, travellers, and a few local people who have experience in fine Asian cuisine and are adventurous enough to navigate the dining format and...
Read moreVery rude staff. We were asking/complaining about a dish and the senior server walked away halfway through us talking, super abruptly. I thought it was so they could go correct the issue quickly but then realized that was not the case. When we asked the server about it the next time, she said it was because she was busy. And yet we were never talking to her for any really long time at all. We ate everything and paid for everything and she was rude again during the checkout process. Place is nice but the senior server is not a good person. Food is good or rly bad depending what you get. The bad service is now literally causing me to write my first...
Read moreI went to this place last year and was surprised about the great quality of the xiao long bao. Yesterday wanted to go but was too tired from the trip, so ordered food delivery, wonton soup, various Dim sums and Xiao Long Bao.
Was really looking forward to it but was really bitterly disappointed. There were only two dim sums per kind ( usually three) and quality was good BUT all was very cold as by therefore indigestible. For a price of EUR 45 this is not really good.
I cannot imagine that the restaurant sends the food off cold, so the restaurant may wish to consider changing the...
