A Delightful Experience at Oppio Caffè, Rome, Italy (2019/2020) During my trip to Rome in 2019/2020, a memorable experience I had was visiting Oppio Caffè with a close friend. Despite the quieter streets and the unusual atmosphere caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the charm of this café made it stand out as one of the highlights of our time in the Eternal City. Situated near the Colosseum, Oppio Caffè offers a delightful combination of great coffee, delicious food, and a welcoming atmosphere that made our visit unforgettable, even under the unique circumstances of the pandemic.
Atmosphere: Cozy and Inviting Amid Quiet Streets The atmosphere at Oppio Caffè was warm and inviting, even though the streets of Rome were quieter than usual due to the pandemic. The café’s interior is modern yet cozy, with a simple yet stylish décor that makes you feel right at home. With fewer tourists around, the café had a tranquil, almost peaceful vibe, which allowed for a more intimate and relaxing experience. We sat at a table outside, overlooking the quieter streets, and enjoyed the slower pace of life. The environment felt safe and comfortable, and the staff took all the necessary precautions to ensure a pleasant experience. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Oppio Caffè’s ability to maintain its welcoming ambiance made it a standout spot for us.
Service: Friendly and Attentive The service at Oppio Caffè was one of the highlights of our visit. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and genuinely seemed to care about providing a great experience. Despite the quieter atmosphere, they were attentive and made us feel like we were part of their café family. Whether it was answering questions about the menu or recommending the best pastries to go with our coffee, the staff went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable. It’s clear that customer service is a top priority for them, and their genuine warmth added to the overall enjoyment of the visit. Even during such uncertain times, the staff's professionalism made us feel reassured and well taken care of.
Food and Coffee: High Quality and Delicious Oppio Caffè truly shines when it comes to its food and coffee. We enjoyed a selection of pastries, including a flaky, buttery croissant that paired perfectly with the rich, aromatic coffee. The café serves excellent Italian espresso and cappuccinos, which were a treat for us as coffee lovers. Each sip was smooth, strong, and flavorful, providing the perfect start to our day.
We also tried a few savory options from the menu, such as a delicious panini filled with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The food was well-prepared and full of flavor, showing the café's commitment to offering more than just good coffee. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick espresso or looking to enjoy a leisurely breakfast or lunch, Oppio Caffè delivers on all fronts with high-quality offerings.
Value for Money: Reasonable Prices Given the location of the café near the Colosseum, I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the prices were. While the surrounding area can sometimes be known for tourist-heavy pricing, Oppio Caffè offered great value for money without sacrificing quality. The food and drinks were priced fairly, making it accessible for both tourists and locals. We felt that we got excellent quality for the cost, which only added to the positive experience.
Conclusion: A Standout Experience in a Quieter Rome Despite the quieter streets during the Covid-19 pandemic, our visit to Oppio Caffè was a highlight of our time in Rome. The welcoming atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious food and coffee made it a memorable stop. In a city that is often bustling with tourists, Oppio Caffè stood out as a peaceful retreat where we could enjoy great coffee, indulge in tasty pastries, and savor the beauty of Rome’s quieter side. If you find yourself in the area, I highly recommend stopping by for a taste of authentic Italian hospitality. It’s a place that made our trip to Rome even more special, and I look forward to returning...
Read moreTerrible Experience: Rude Service and Discrimination
I recently visited Oppio restaurant in Rome, and I must say it was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. After ordering and eating, my party and I wanted to place one more order, but when we took a moment to decide, the waiter rudely asked us to leave or reorder. We were shocked by his attitude.
Upon requesting to speak with the manager, we were met with even more disrespect. The manager was incredibly rude and dismissive, going so far as to make derogatory remarks about our country. This behavior was not only unprofessional but also deeply offensive.
It's disheartening to encounter such blatant discrimination and disrespect, especially in a city known for its hospitality. I felt compelled to share this experience to warn others. I hope management addresses these issues promptly so that others don't have to endure similar treatment.
In reply to your unprofessional comment, which was expected because you haven’t even ask about what happened .
I appreciate your response to my review. However, I feel it's important to clarify the situation accurately. When we initially ordered dessert and drinks, we intended to order more food after giving some thought to our choices. We were a family of four, including two kids who tend to be restless, hence the choice of a table for two.
Our intention was never to cause any disturbance. Unfortunately, the waiter's approach was extremely rude and made us uncomfortable. We requested additional time to decide our order, but he persistently interrupted us, sending other waiters as well. Due to our daughters' picky eating habits, we carry their own food, which we hadn't even placed on the table when the waiter approached us again.
His demeanor escalated the situation, prompting us to request the manager. Sadly, the manager's response was abrupt, and she insisted we leave immediately. This experience was highly disappointing for us as tourists visiting Rome, and we felt unfairly treated.
We hope this clarifies the situation. We believe every customer deserves respectful treatment, regardless of their origin. We genuinely hope this incident was an exception and not indicative of the service your restaurant...
Read moreLet me start by saying I read through recent reviews and really didn’t want to come here but we had a late morning start with my babies, 3 yr old and 1 yr old, that we were going to be late for a tour, so when my mom said let’s just grab something quick here, I thought ok why not.
I went in to buy, my mom told the waitress with purple hair outside we’re taking to go but because of my baby’s stroller, they were just waiting outside. We had 4 adults and my two babies and spent over €30 to get 3 coffee drinks, 3 bottles of water, 3 sandwiches and 3 croissants. The food was quick because they just put them in a bag but I had to wait for the drinks - which I’m totally fine with - I went to bring the food out especially for my babies because they were hungry for breakfast. And my husband went in to wait for the drinks. We’re on the side of the restaurant that faces the park and NOT the colosseum and the whole row was empty at 9:30am. As I hand the sandwich halves to my 3 yr old and 1 yr old, this purple hair waitress says “you said to take to go you can’t eat here”. I said we are waiting for our drinks and we are going the moment the drinks get here. She then says “if you eat here you have to pay the difference you can’t eat here” and I said “we are not eating here we’re waiting for the drinks and I’m literally just giving it to these babies” and she CONTINUES to say things like we don’t want to pay the difference we can go somewhere else and at this point I had had it… because I never wanted to go there, we literally had just the 3 yr old sitting in one chair and the 1 yr old is in the stroller and NO ONE else was eating and we were still waiting for our coffee drinks and we’re not taking up any space that’s needed by another customer and she’s just going on about us not wanting to pay?!? The moment my husband came out with the coffee we left and I hope anyone that reads this, especially those with kids, can give money to another business that know how to treat and talk to people, especially families with young kids, with respect.
To the business owner, I think you have a great location where your business can THRIVE if you had...
