Visited this cafe at around 4.30pm on 9/11/19 with a small group of friends. Two distinct incidents occurred which I wished to share. First and foremost, allow me to compliment on its quality of drinks. However, its service by one particular burly waiter left much to be desired. On arrival, the four of us ordered our drinks. The new waiter (sorry, forgotten his name, let’s just call him Waiter Nice) was very pleasant and friendly. One of us ordered ginseng, which she thought was going to be ginseng tea (as it was listed under the same section as teas). But it was apparently ginseng-flavoured coffee. When we counter checked with Nice, he said he wasn’t sure as that was only his second day and referred the enquiry to Waiter Burly, who was supposed to be more experienced. Burly just came over and said ‘You ordered ginseng, no, this is ginseng. His mannerism and tone of voice was rather intimidating. We accepted the fact & misunderstanding and continued with our drinks. Moments later, a group of five friends arrived and was seated outside by the entrance. I walked over and chatted with them while standing by their table. For the record, the edge of their table from the next table across the entrance was at least four feet apart. I am a rather slim guy and at least another person can fit in comfortably in that gap with touching me. First, Burly has to open his umbrella (it was drizzling) right next to me between the tables and not outside after the canopy. He rudely gestured that I move away which I told him he had more than enough space even when he was carrying a tray. I was in no means blocking the entrance as other waiters and patrons passed behind me with no issue or impact. Two minutes later, he brushed by my back (though there were only two of us and he wasn’t carrying anything) & was confronted me again and asking me to leave. I was furious but I complied and went back inside. Then I noticed a larger guy was standing at almost my same spot but facing the table across. Burly just walked by and did nothing! I felt bullied by then. I approached someone who seemed like a manager or owner at the counter and relayed to him the whole unfair and unpleasant experience. I told him I felt bullied and discriminated. He went and have a look at that space and mentioned it was spacious enough and apologised. Burly witnessed my conversation with the manager from a distance. Manager said it was alright for me to stand there. I did and since then, Burly left me alone and didn’t attempt to brush against me when he passed by. The thing which bothered me was why did he pick on me and was physical towards me to begin with. Did it stem from the ginseng beverage? Was it because he noticed we were tourist (it was obvious as we are foreigners)? I’m also wondering did other tourists or patrons experienced similar treatment from Burly? Was it a bad day for Burly? For the record, waiter Nice and another waitress were very friendly and professional. Burly, please don’t be a bully. You may have gotten away before with that shenanigan many times but they were at the expense of the establishment you’re working for. p/s: Attached is a sample photo of the width between the second and third tables at the entrance. The width is the width of...
Read moreUpon entering La Vista del Colosseo, one is immediately struck by the breathtaking view of the ancient Colosseum, a panorama that promises an unforgettable dining experience. Unfortunately, the allure of this majestic sight is quickly overshadowed by the restaurant’s less-than-stellar service.
The evening began with a series of forgotten drink orders, a mishap that could be forgiven if not for the persistent neglect that followed. The staff, while not discourteous, seemed disorganized and overwhelmed, leading to long waits and repeated requests before our beverages graced the table.
As for the cuisine, “mediocre” is the word that comes to mind. The dishes, while presented with a certain flair, lacked the robust flavors one anticipates from Italian gastronomy. The pasta, a touch too al dente, and the sauce, surprisingly bland, left much to be desired. The promise of authentic Italian fare was unfulfilled, leaving our palates yearning for the rich and hearty essence of true Italian cooking.
The pricing structure presented a conundrum. The food, reasonably priced, might have offered some consolation for the culinary shortcomings. However, the exorbitant cost of drinks—a stark contrast to the affordability of the meals—left us questioning the value of the overall experience.
In conclusion, while La Vista del Colosseo boasts a view that rivals any in Rome, the beauty of its surroundings is not enough to compensate for the forgettable service and lackluster cuisine. For those seeking the quintessence of Italian dining, it may be wise to look beyond the allure of the...
Read moreAmazing view of the colleseum but that's where the magic ends. There was one waiter, of the many waitresses and waiters there, who provided a decent expreince for us. The rest were miserable or rude. It's kind of like they're fed up with the tourists who are keeping their jobs available. I'm from England and tourists and foreigners are everyhwere in the UK and I still provide a happy and cheerful exprience to anyone when I was a waitress regardless. They either really hate their job in which case I erge them to leave and let people who enjoy being servers to take the jobs, or they hate tourists. Either way they need to sort their customer service out. We're here to see the beauty that is Rome, to find out the history and beauty behind Rome, I come and sit in the resturant and it feels hostile. Food was okay, came in minutes and my pasta was half cold half piping hot, my husband said his pizza was lovely though. This was for an anniversary, and it just didn't feel magical or special. I would give it 5 stars if they were more focused on providing excellent customer service and a smile. I find it hard to beleive Italians have never visited another country and how they would feel of they were treated in a way that made them feel unwelcome or unable to eat without judgements. You have a stunning spot, in a stunning location though and the food was okay, so if you want to stop for a bite to eat its not the worst place, and I hope our exprience was a one off becuase it's...
