What I Ate in My First Week in Italy

You can’t beat the view and the quality of food at Royal Art Cafe! We were exhausted after touring the Colosseum and wanted to sit down to have a nice meal. So lucky to find a seat by the window to enjoy the view of the Colosseum! We didn’t expect much but got blown away by the food when it came out. Not only presentation was beautiful but the food was so tasty. Shrimp appetizer was wrapped with noodles and it was so crispy but inside was moist. Octopus was warm and accompanied with special pepper, fennel, and orange sauce. It was packed with flavor. Dessert was WOW moment. We got the tasting sampler mignon and it was so pretty to eat. Pistachio, passion fruit w coco, strawberry vanilla and triple chocolate w cookies. We don’t even like sweets but we enjoyed to the last bite. Price is very reasonable. Staff are friendly but you need to get their attention if you want more drinks or check. It was an amazing dining experience and highly recommend this place when you come to Rome.

For a high tourist area, this was a great restaurant. Prices extremely fair for the area and view. Here are the few things I did not like. #1 the water story is a joke. They charge 4 euros for a glass bottle with their name n it that they literally fill up with tap water. How about charge 4 euros like others restaurants do but give a factory sealed bottle with natural spring water. What is this tap water joke!! Secondly they hand write on the receipt “tip is not included” been in Italy for 9 days now haven’t this anywhere. Lastly the Amatrciana dish is not what I expected. The real dish is supposed to have pork jaw meat, not fried pancetta and way too much red sauce in the dish. The selection on the menu is very unique and different from the Italian menus you will find at most other places.

I came here purely for the beautiful view of the colosseum and good food. The view did not disappoint. However the food was another story. We had a burger and shrimp risotto. The chips that came with the burger was the best part of the meal (although my partner was not happy about me stealing them). I left most of my risotto. The prawns were nice but the risotto rice itself was so underdone, it was chalky. I've never left my food! I'm gutted as this was our last night here and after such a beautiful day looking at the most amazing roman ruins, I guess the risotto left a bad taste in my mouth.... Oh and the service was so slow! We were so hot and needed water (water is also out of the tap and they charge €4). It took us having to flag them down after around 15 minutes of being there to order drinks. But... If you want a beautiful view... Then it's a great place to have a drink.

This place is definitely more worth it for the views & atmosphere than the food. There’s a rooftop with a beautiful view of the Colosseum. We started off with the beef tartar which was pretty tasty. We ordered the ravioli and pasta carbonara. The food was pretty average and not worth the prices. The carbonara was too salty, even for having bacon, it should not be that salty. We got the tiramisu to end which was very disappointing. It was garnished nicely but the creme was almost frozen so it didn’t taste soft and creamy like a tiramisu should. Overall, this may be more of a drinks and apps place with a good view.

One of the most beautiful place to stay if you ever are looking for quality of time with yourself or with your partner in Rome, staff is amazing around, I’ve loved the fact that everyone is smiling and positive, so kind , especially to Bella, Sabrina and Ahmed a huge thank you for to support which I had and the kindness, coffee and food is just amazing. The view of colosseum from the room is something which cannot be described in words, any of the photos taken cannot describe the feeling of how amazing everything it is, first time here but for sure not the last time. Thank you guys 🤗
