Ristorante Angelina al Porto Fluviale — Restaurant in Rome

I think of this as one of our neighborhood restaurants (OK, I am not local, but have been living here for a month). And for a neighborhood restaurant it is very good! Let me start with the food. We (wife and I) ordered the large mixed appetizer (polenta with spinach, beans in a pot, bread with butter and anchovies, artichoke, can't recall what else...) and each item was deliciously prepared and the whole thing attractively presented. We shared as main the white cow (chianina) steak, medium raw, and it was prepared as ordered, served at the right temperature, very clean cut, delicious. Topped it off with very nice tiramisu. Wine with dinner (by the glass, ok selection).

Service was cordial and attentive. They put up with out poor italian, and understood our switch backs to Spanish and English. They let us in without reservation, on a whim, by putting an extra table in the bar area. The ambiance was nice, noise level acceptable (low by US standards) and the...

Our second time visiting Ristorante Angelina during our 4-day trip to Rome, once for drinks and once for food- our experience for both visits was outstanding! During our visit for drinks we were brought various plates of delicious food for no extra charge and both the waiters and manager were very attentive. We had such a great experience that we returned for food in the following days, and the food was incredible! A great menu that caters for all tastes at great prices- we ordered the suppli, carbonara, and maze maniche alla gricia and all 3 dishes were super flavourful and made with locally sourced products. Not to mention the manager and waitresses were super attentive during our second visit too- we could not have asked for better service. The manager of the restaurant, Guillio, was super friendly and knew lots of interesting history about Rome. Me and my partner stayed at a hotel on the same street as this restaurant. We went in here both nights we were there. We just had drinks both times but Gullio (forgive the spelling) was an absolute treasure. Second to none in customer service. First night we drank quite a lot ( all cocktails were amazing) and he offered us complimentary veggie chips , chips and bruscetta throughout the night. The bruscetta was the best we've ever had by far. We talked with him a lot asking where we were from etc.

Second night he remembered us from the day before and I had just proposed to ny now fiancé that night. He was so happy for us , he popped a bottle of champagne for us and poured us both a glass. He was genuinely heartfelt that we came back to his restaurant straight after i had proposed. I have never in my life witnessed such caring and passionate enthusiasm in this industry.
