Ristorante la Grotta Azzurra — Restaurant in Rome

I've been going to this restaurant ever since I came to live in Rome so that's 11 years now. It has been maybe a year since my last visit. First thing we noticed that there was no one in the restaurant. Second the place was all bright and the windows closed. The tables were setup in perfection and the aperitivo di benvenuto was very good. None of the old staff were present. Our company arrived and the waiter offered the classic "mixed antipasto" that the restaurant was known for. After the antipasto the waiter asked if we wanted primi and that's when I asked for the menu. The menu had changed 100%. Sure there were some similarities but mostly the menu got simplified a lot. I ordered an astice alla catalana (30€) and It was indeed delicious. The prices were better that before, the staff can work on discretion and in the end we didn't die from food poisoning so I guess the raw seafood was fresh. I will go back again of course. Ferragosto passato in questo locale trovato e prenotato tramite The Fork con sconto del 20%. Dopo aver prenotato abbiamo chiamato per assicurarci che il locale fosse climatizzato visto che veniva con noi mio padre che ha 90 anni . Ci viene risposto che l'ambiente è climatizzato e che la prenotazione con the fork dovevamo cancellarla e prenotare direttamente con loro perché a Ferragosto c'era un menù fisso di € 50 e che il 20% di sconto non sarebbe stato applicato ( cosa molto strana perché l'applicazione ci aveva fatto prenotare con lo sconto 20%) . Arriviamo e ci ritroviamo in un ambiente piccolo e claustrofobico, dove mancava l'aria: un caldo assurdo! Ci rendiamo conto che i condizionatori accesi non emanavano aria fresca ( forse accesi x fare "scena" ma completamente scarichi di gas..) e ventilatori posizionati in vari angoli che spostavano aria calda! Naturalmente ci lamentiamo perché ci avevano assicurato che saremmo stati freschi. Inoltre la nostra prenotazione, insieme a quella di altre persone non risultava o risultava con meno persone. Volevamo andare via, ma il personale molto gentilmente si è scusato e ha cercato di farci mettere in un tavolo dove c'era il ventilatore piu grande che permetteva cosi a mio padre di respirare. Pranzo servito con velocità e professionalità. I miei complimenti a tutti i camerieri che trottavano come matti con quel caldo per servire tutti . Cibo un po' scarso nelle porzioni ( sei rotelline di calamari fritti per 3 persone ci ha fatto davvero sorridere!) , ma tutto fresco e buono. Prosecco di benvenuto e vino caldo purtroppo. The food was quite good (you need to like fish) and the restaurant was clean and had some locals in which is always a good sign. The wine list was pretty decent and overall the menu for food was reasonably priced.

The service was not great, the waitress didn't write our order down and had to come back and ask again. Even after that she forgot two of our sides.
