During our vacation tour in Rome everything was pretty nice, convenient and fair except by this place, where I particularly felt almost insulted. Here's the story: we went there recommended by a Roman girl friend that lives only 100m away. She said: 'they have a unique Expresso chocolate that you must try'. We entered the store and were indicated to pay before order, which is fine. The girl on the counter wasn't the nicest person in Rome, that's for sure, but fine. Then we sat in a small table to eat and drink our expressos. After one minute another waiter came 'shouting' that we couldn't stay there if we had already pre paid, worst modals I have seen in time. We said, 'ok no problem, but want to order more food apart, can we stay?' At this point of course the linguistic barrier can be a problem, but trust me when I say he did not want to listen. At the end we stayed on the table and order another sandwich. We had to ask for it like 3 times more, he came with a really ugly face & a sandwich we did not even order. Asked again to bring what we ordered and never came back again to us. The girl on the counter wanted to charge us for something we did no even eat.... Seems like a movie ('crazy shit in Rome' could be called, I know) but was real. We had to leave with this feeling of having been offended for no reason, and a desperation feeling (my gf much more chilled because of her nature)

Listen carefully: if you want your stay in Rome to continue being one of your best trips ever don't step in this place, it's terrible (for sure if you deep dive in 'the why' there must be a terrible owner that has no command or organizational skills and maybe their waiters only reflect its chaos with no guilt at all, or it was just a bad day of everybody inside (looking again into the ratings of the place) but if you decide to come in after reading this and have a similar experience don't say I did not warn you :))

Please, make the worl slightly better people from...

I initially found Sciascia Caffe while looking for a caffe that opened early in the mornings and within the area that I was staying in. My first time at the caffee I was able to enjoy early morning, empty and quiet streets in Roma beforehand. Upon entering Sciascia I immediately noticed how many locals frequent the caffee. I took a look around and grabbed a menu to place an order. You will want to place an order first at the register, take your receipt to the counter, and wait for the lovely staff to complete your order. After now visiting Sciascia many times I've noticed that the locals will quickly down their espresso and isn't in the caffee for more than 5-10 mins max. It is a great place for people watching and I always snag my little table in the corner each time. I've ordered the same two items each time and I have not been disappointed -- chocolate cappuccino with a ham and cheese croissant. I am not a fan of sandwiches so to my surprise I was thrilled when I fell in love with this simple yet oh so delicious sandwich! I always frequent Sciascia in the mornings so this is a nice breakfast substitute esp after being slightly toasted. I highly recommend this caffee as it makes me feel less like a tourist and more...

A Hidden Gem Near the Vatican – Thanks to a Local Angel!

While wandering around Rome near the Vatican, my group was on a mission: espresso martinis and a great place to enjoy some drinks. We tried entering several restaurants but were turned away unless each person ordered a full entrée. Disappointed and about to give up, a kind local stopped me on the street and recommended Sciascia Caffè 1919—and I truly wish I could find her again just to thank her!

From the moment we arrived, the experience was everything we hoped for and more. Our waiter, Lorenzo, was absolutely outstanding. He didn’t just serve us—he curated our entire experience, recommending drinks that just kept getting better with each round. On top of that, he surprised us with delicious little treats that perfectly complemented the cocktails. It was clear he took pride in creating a memorable moment for his guests.

The drinks? Incredible. The service? Warm, personalized, and top-tier. The atmosphere? Classic Roman charm with a twist of magic.

Sciascia Caffè wasn’t just a great spot for espresso martinis—it became one of our favorite memories from the trip. Thank you to the kind stranger, and an even bigger thank you to Lorenzo....

If only I could take this coffee shop home with me. We stumbled across this Sciascia last year while in Rome and when we found out we would be returning to Rome again this fall we added Sciascia to the itinerary for EVERY morning while in Rome. Even if it meant getting less sleep, we were there every morning. The coffee is fabulous, the pastries are fresh and delicious (the croissant with marmalade is our favorite), and the ambiance is perfection. Get there early and you'll have a relaxing experience with a place to sit down and sip your coffee slowly. Get there during the hustle and bustle and you might be forced to chug your cappuccino at the counter, Italian style. If a slower pace is more your jam, I highly suggest stopping in when it is busy, just once. The men behind the counter are like a well oiled machine. The way they whip up the plethora of drinks is like an art. I love to just sit (or stand) and watch them. A coffee shop that's been around 100 years truly has something special and will forever be one of my fondest memories of Rome.

The coffee and pastries were truly delicious. We had a pistachio and an apricot croissant (cornetto). Fresh, flakey and perfect. To drink we had cappuccinos and I had to try one of their famous chocolate espresso. I love coffee and they were perfectly crafted. The espresso had a delightful taste with the ciocolata. The cappuccino was smooth without being too creamy. Both strong without a bitter taste. I'd shortlisted Sciascia as a possible place to go for breakfast before our Vatican tour. I'm so glad we went. It was perfect. When we arrived the police were there picking up their morning coffee to-go. If the police are choosing here over the thousands of coffee choices in Roma then you know it's good. We would definitely go back. Sometimes when you sit outside in restaurants you can get delays as you're out of sight but Claudio was brilliant. You also get your bill before/with the food. We were in a rush so I appreciated the fact we could pay and leave when we were ready instead of waiting around after eating. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
