Habemus Papam — Restaurant in Salerno

We eat out often and so we are always looking for something a little different. We like finding the "out of the way" places. We found just that with Habems Papam! We loved it so much, we came back two nights in a row! It's tucked back away from the main busy area in the old part of town. They kept the authentic look of the old building which gives it a wonderful atmosphere. We were greeted by the husband and wife team - Antonio and Marika - with big smiles and a warm welcome. Marika takes care of the tables and Antonio does the cooking. They are experts at both paying close attention to all details. Marika's personality was engaging, bright and friendly. Marika's speaks very good English and helped us to choose meals, which we always appreciate. The menu is in Italian and English. We started with zucchini flowers and deep fried vegetables. The flowers had just the right amount of anchovies and were very tasty. Deep fried vegetables seems like an odd choice, but they were wonderful. Not too much batter and perfectly seasoned. For our main we had Cacio e Pepe and ox tail. Both amazing! Pasta was cooked al dente and wonderful flavor. The ox tail is a MUST try. I don't generally eat meat, but I would order it just for the flavor of the sauce. The meat also melted in your mouth. For desert we had tiramisu and a sheep ricotta cheesecake. Both were delicious. The tiramisu was the BEST I have ever had! Truly! We could not wait until the next night to have another amazing meal with such kind hosts. The next night we had Roman tomato salad and marinated zucchini. Both fresh and tasty! For main I had the Amatraciana and my partner had the lamb. Neither disappointed! I should also mention, the prices are very reasonable! I would highly recommend this restaurant if in Salerno. I don't think we could have found a better meal...

I was in Salerno for 2 months (June & July 2024). Came to this restaurant several times when my boyfriend came to visit & then once with my parents. My boyfriend & I were day dreaming of where we would rather be right now (we live in Texas, US) & both decided this restaurant. We are so thankful to the kind service from the daughter of the owner & the amazing food. Everything was made from scratch the day of. We loved the explanation of the food, the simple & brilliant wine recommendations, & the hospitality.

The location was fun too - a little off of the beaten path.

We tried something different each time & enjoyed every dish. If you’re looking for something highly authentic, kind, delicious, & unforgettable - this is the place.

My bf & I are in our 20’s & my parents are in their 50’s. Any age from any culture would have an amazing time.

Questo gioiello enogastronomico ha saputo conquistare il mio palato e il mio cuore, creando un connubio perfetto tra la raffinatezza dei prodotti e l'atmosfera rustica che incanta i sensi.

La qualità dei prodotti serviti è semplicemente straordinaria. Ogni piatto è una sinfonia di sapori autentici e freschezza. Gli ingredienti tipici dellancucina romana sono trattati con maestria, trasformandoli in opere d'arte culinarie che si distinguono per la loro autenticità e genuinità. Dal primo all'ultimo morso, ho potuto percepire l'impegno nella selezione attenta dei prodotti e nell'esecuzione impeccabile delle ricette. Il locale stesso è un capolavoro architettonico che unisce il fascino rustico con un tocco di raffinatezza. L'atmosfera accogliente e calorosa crea un ambiente perfetto per godere di una cena romantica o per festeggiare con amici e famiglia. Le pareti nude e spoglie, l'illuminazione giustaa contribuiscono a creare un'atmosfera magica che ti trasporta indietro nel tempo. Il personale, soprattutto Marika, cortese e competente, ha reso l'esperienza ancora più memorabile con il loro servizio impeccabile. La loro conoscenza dei piatti e dei vini ha arricchito ulteriormente il nostro viaggio gastronomico, trasformando una cena in un'autentica celebrazione della cucina romana. In definitiva, questo ristorante è un tesoro culinario nel cuore di Roma, un luogo dove la tradizione si fonde con l'eccellenza gastronomica. Non posso fare altro che consigliarlo vivamente a chiunque cerchi un'esperienza enogastronomica autentica e indimenticabile nel contesto unico del centro...
