After reading a few very positive reviews, I booked a table at this place immediately. But after dinner I left this restaurant totally confused. It is quite expensive comparing to other restaurants in Siena and... not so worth it, I would say.
We ordered terrine in Vin Santo with brioche which tasted ok, but the combination of it was.. let's say, dry. Maybe because the brioche bread was slightly overtoasted. Then I had rigatoni with rabbit's meat in white sauce, which turned out to be a simple pasta with steamed minced meat and a few black olives. Didn't understand this combination as well... Maybe I took the wrong dishes? But should they be in the menu overall? I was very hungry, but I couldn't even finish my pasta... Can't tell much about my friend's food since I didn't taste it. But he had a mini portion of ravioli and didn't understand the green sauce combination with them.
We planned to take a dessert, but didn't want to feel more disappointed. Sorry to say, but this experience was so low, comparing to other trattorias in Siena. The good thing about this place is definitely the ambiance, the stylish tableware and the wine list, but...
Read moreLet down by an indiscreet strange waiter but other than that food is nice and all the other staff are lovely. I asked for a lager (like Moretti) and this weird male waiter starts to tell me that they only have beers that are "important" aka birre artigianale. Then he says they don't have lagers like Moretti which in his strange opinion is a "Carribbean" type of a lager?!? When I say to him that for me Moretti-type lagers are "important" he starts to tell me that I've not understood! Perhaps he should return to school instead of being indiscreet and just plain weird/inappropriate. I'm really sorry to give 3 stars for what is otherwise a great restaurant and one I'd recommend but if they are going to employ a person who has an inappropriate way of antagonising clients...
Read moreI highly recommend this restaurant. Looking back at our 2 weeks journey through tuscany this was the best food and service we had throughout our trip. You should value good food and be willing to spend a little extra but it is definjtely worth it! We were two and had 3 courses each and shared a dessert and a bottle of wine. Waiters explained us each dish on the menue which was a really kind gesture, given that as tourists we were not familiar with the local cuisine and the preparation of the dishes. I just want to point out their interpretation of vitello tonnato (based on the veals tounge) which was THE most memorable dish that evening and throughout our jurney. Thank you Salefino Wine and Cuisine team for a very...
