My wife and I stayed at the hotel (Excelsior Vittoria) where this restaurant is located, and the hotel is excellent; however this food at this restaurant is nothing short of awful, and we have no idea how it secured a Michelin 1-star (having said that, service, atmosphere and wine list was very good). My wife threw up 7 times (!!) following our when we returned to our room. I bring this matter to the hotel the next morning, the hotel was gracious enough to discount our dinner 50%. The hotel should certainly review the quality of this restaurant as it is not consistent with the quality of the hotel. Also, worth noting is that -- on the prior night -- we ate at the other restaurant (La Orangeria) located at this hotel , and it was EXCELLENT - atmosphere, food, wine list and - most especially - the service (our waiter was Pasqualino) -- perhaps Michelin to re-assign Terrazza's star to La Orangeria! :)
IN RESPONSE TO THE HOTEL MANAGER'S FEEDBACK:
I stand by my feedback that the food we were served that evening tasted poor in quality, with several items having a distinctly “off” flavor that my wife and I discussed at the time. My wife ate only the pre-appetizer served in the foyer and a small portion of the first appetizers at the table before becoming unwell. We are certain that one of the two offerings led to her getting sick very soon after eating them. She excused herself immediately after eating these items, and that was when her illness began. It continued through the evening and into the night.
It is correct that she did not finish her meal; however, this was because she was unsettled after her reaction to the initial courses, not because she arrived unwell. While I also tasted the same items, I did not become ill, but I can confirm they did not taste right (in fact, I distinctly remember the pre-appetizer in the foyer and several of the initial appetizers had an “off” taste to them). In fact, we both noted this when eating them.
You mention that at no point during dinner did we raise the matter of illness. That is true — at the time, we were still trying to understand what had caused her reaction. When her condition persisted through the night, I raised the matter with the front desk the following morning. I did not suggest she had a “severe illness,” only that the most likely cause was the food at dinner.
I also want to clarify your reference to our lunch earlier that day. We had a light, early meal at Quattro Passi and experienced no issues whatsoever. To imply that restaurant’s food was responsible is not only inaccurate but unfair to another establishment.
Finally, I find it disappointing that you suggest my review is defamatory. I have no incentive to fabricate negative feedback — on the contrary, I praised the hotel, your staff, the wine list, and particularly your other restaurant, L’Orangerie, which we thought was excellent. My comments were honest, based on our experience that evening.
While I recognize that Terrazza Bosquet has received praise from other guests, on the night we dined there the food quality fell far short of what we expected from a Michelin-starred restaurant, and my wife unfortunately became ill immediately afterward. That is the sole basis of my review.
I respect the work of your team, but I must stand by my feedback. Given our experience and the lack of accountability in your response, we will not be returning to the restaurant or the hotel...
Read moreWe came here for a family dinner. Initially, we feared that the atmosphere would be overly formal and serious, but the evening far exceeded our expectations.
The first selection of snacks accompagnying the aperitivo was very playful and delicious. This spirit travelled through the whole menu. We opted for the selection of the chef's greatest dishes. One of our party was vegan and their menu was not in any way less complex or original than ours. Overall, the dishes remained true to the local ingredients and each contained little elements of surprise and wonder. I'll especially remember the little amuse bouches for the aperitivo and the variations of green pepper as well as the stunning lemon dessert. No amount of flourish was excessive because the flavors were always true to the local ingredients and simply delicious. We spontaneously requested a cheese course before the dessert and also asked for a little break between courses. Every need was accommodated effortlessly.
The other element which made our evening was the outstanding service. Everyone was very attentive and formal but still friendly and warm. We will especially remember the great recommendations of local wine by sommelier Natale and his passion that came through when talking with us. Our waiter Danilo heard that we were going to Napoli next and gave us a few recommendations. Not only did he tell us where to go, he also took the time to write up a small list when most of the other customers had left. These little details go beyond great service and make guests feel truly welcome.
We had a wonderful experience having a special family dinner in an elegant, yet comfy atmosphere, eating delicious and original dishes - a...
Read moreMy husband and I dined here and were rather disappointed. When I made the reservation, weeks in advance mind you, I disclosed that my husband has a gluten allergy. When we arrived, we were pressured to order a glass of champagne. It felt like an expectation, not a suggestion. The waiter explained the two versions of the set menu and stated that either option would be possible without gluten. However, when they returned to take our order, they changed their tune and said they could only do the fish menu. And that even I wouldn’t be able to order the menu I wanted to get (by myself) because both people needed to order it per table. What a stupid rule! This whole process was rather confusing and my husband and I had already decided we wanted the other menu. We were extremely disappointed…. Talk about a lack of communication. So we ordered the fish since we were literally left no other choice. I was visibly upset and one waiter came over and said that it was my fault that I didn’t respond to his text message that he had sent me that day. Umm… I never received a text message. I even checked my phone right then. Nothing. He was suggesting it was my fault this happened. The whole experience was rather uncomfortable. All in all, the food was decent but not Michelin worthy. The overall vibe is pretentious and the experience lacks authenticity. The theatrical elements of the presentation are a bit hokey. We had better food at other places in Sorrento. I would go...
