It’s a struggle getting to the lift, from the railway station, pulling your 23 kg suitcase across the cobbles and flagstones while you read your GoggleMaps app to make sure you’re on track. No signs, mind you not everybody in Sorrento wants to go to this lift, and there are too many other signs cluttering up the views. No one collecting money at the top booth, but they were on the bottom exit way/ tunnel. When we got to the bottom (and had to get to Pier/ Wharf 5) there was more hard work going up and down temporary planking … for upgrading construction work, I guess. However, I had a disappointing experience around 10:30 AM on September 1. One staff behaved in a very rude and unprofessional manner. He gave instructions about where to exit with luggage very impatiently, and repeatedly said "China XXX China" in a dismissive and disrespectful tone. This is clearly racist and unacceptable, especially in such a popular and internationally known tourist destination.

Tickets are cash only. We were coming back after a long day of sight seeing, handed the attendant a 20 Euro bill for 2 tickets. He gave us back 7.6 Euro and pocketed the rest of the change.
We only realized this after we had proceeded beyond the ticket booth. We went back, expecting he would realize the error and give us the right change. Attendant proceeded to yell at us - it was clear he knew he had scammed us and was getting aggressive to cover it up.
