TL;DR atmosphere and decor, fine; but the food was pretty disappointing. We ate dinner here on our final night in Sorrento. The restaurant itself looks welcoming enough and the waiting staff were all friendly and helpful. The complementary bread was followed by an amouse bouche-style plate of fresh focaccia which although tasty made the bread selection seem a bit unnecessary - a nice enough gesture but the offering of bread followed by bread was a bit unusual, especially before we had even had the first course. I ordered the pork and my girlfriend ordered the veal chop. Unfortunately both were quite bland; the pork was OK but the cabbage and pancetta had no seasoning and the potato croquets resembled something you might buy from the frozen aisle of a supermarket. The gravy was barely warm and slightly congealed. I only tried a small piece of my girlfriend's veal but she didn't eat much of it - again saying it was quite bland and that the asparagus had been boiled to the point of becoming mushy. The waiters were sympathetic and even brought us a complementary dessert and glass of limoncello - although the dessert itself - a kind of pear cheesecake was pretty unremarkable too. It might all sound a bit pedantic or hypercritical but for one of Sorrento's supposedly higher-end restaurants it didn't live up to the billing. As mentioned although the service and general ambience was good, the experience was let down by the food - which is obviously the main reason you go there in the...
Read moreThis restaurant had always been my favourite and we always looked forward to going there on special occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays etc. However, our last visit disappointed me immensely. The food was up to standard and we ordered our favourite dish: frittura di pesce which was,as always , fresh and well prepared. Despite it being a busy Saturday evening the service was also efficient. So where is the problem??? The difference in treatment received. We arrived on time (booked for 8,30 and just had to wait 5 minutes to be seated( which was fine). Two couples of American tourists came in after us and were greeted with a glass of white wine while they waited 3 minutes for their table. One of the owners also took extreme care in welcoming personally the guests with hand kisses for the ladies. My point is dear owners shouldn't all guests be reserved the same treatment?? I really couldn't help noticing this difference. I am an English woman living in Pompei and have been here for over 30 years. Surely my money is the same as the tourists money. It's also probable that I've brought more money to you over the years compared to the tourists who might never come again. The prices on the menu are the same for everyone so please treat everybody in the same way. After all, it's also a matter of good taste and politeness....
Read moreVisited on a Sunday in Mid-March '24 as some restaurants were just closed completely for 2 weeks or closed early. The restaurant seems upscale based on their decor and their prices.
The food was okay, nothing to sing praises about. Went for their Ziti with Genovese (€20) and my partner opted to go for their special of the day which was cod with baked potatoes (€30), for that price you'd think you'd at least get a decent portion; but this was tiny, 2 chunks of cod fillet with a salad and roast potatoes. Ordered their tiramisu (€10) which was nice but found it to be dry.
This is another establishment that we found to be pushy about tipping. Once you ask for the bill, they come with a silver plate with a piece of paper stating 'if paying electronically, please write how much you are tipping'. We left this blank (the servers came to take our order, delivered food) and left us alone (which is ok). The server (who we didn't even encounter during our meal) highlighted this again and asked how much for the tip. We refused.
The restaurant was nice and we were seated right away (it was very quiet) but the prices didn't reflect the quality...
