da Carmelo — Restaurant in Syracuse

Saw all the good reviews and came here expecting an amazing pizza. pizzas were okay at best, a bit bland and undercooked base although calamari starter was great. However, the chickpea soup was very poor: probably tinned and had no taste to it. We raised this issue but were still charged for it. Although there was a misunderstanding with the order, it does not change the fact that this dish that cost us €11, more than most of the pizzas, was utterly horrible. There wouldn’t have been a problem if the soup had flavour and was worth the money. An exchange for another dish was only offered right at the end of our meal, when asking for the bill. Not ideal… The old man who served us was very pleasant but the other man was moody and unhelpful. I have sampled many top pizza restaurants in this area and this one was mediocre at best. This may have been a one-off experience but don’t come here expecting amazing food...

Wow, wow, wow! This place is such a gem! Tucked away between the streets, this is not just a typical place to eat - it is an authentic Italian treasure☺️ We’re so sad we had so little time in Siracusa. We’ve been to many parts of Italy, but this is the best pizza we have ever had - truly! Everything was perfect: the pizza, the drinks, the charmingly-local atmosphere, and most importantly, the service. Absolutely impeccable. I don’t think we’ve ever experienced such welcoming and kind staff in Italy; this place was just out of this world. Thank you so much, Team da Carmelo - we will...

The atmosphere was very nice, there was 't a free spot outside so we had dinner inside, it was hot as hell, but we survived. The waiter who served us was bored, we ordered drinks which didn't arrive until I asked him for it after 10 minutes of waiting, I ordered a glass of white wine, later from the other waitress I heard there were 2 options for a white wine, and he didn't tell me that just brought me some of his choice. The menu doesn't have english option so I messed up my order because I don't understand italian. I wish the service was better....
